thanks diet otaku, I just looked back to see when I posted about the excessive humping it was in late March... now Im real worried. I just know Frat is a female and Frit was a male. Its sad though cause frit is no longer here to help in the raising of his children. I hope the newbie's will help him( oops her) out. if he/she is not with pups than he needs a serious diet! Peg

i think when ra's degu was in the late stages of pregnancy, she could feel the pups moving around in mocha's belly... if you have other degus i *think* they should help the mom out. did frit make any noises after the humping sessions? male degus have a mating call that sounds like a rapid, high pitched squeaking noise. they do it nonstop for like half an hour after they've mated. my degus mount each other too, but because they alternate who mounts who, and they've never made any noises, i'm chalking it up to scuffles for dominance. plus i've examined their parts and they're identically spaced apart (that, and i once saw rumble's thingy pop out @__@). degus can get obese, so if the degu isn't pregnant, he/she may just need more exercise.

If she is pregnant, it is a shame frit wont be able to see his pups, but the new degu should raise the babys as his own. I had the same dilema, Taquilla was getting very large so i bought a wheel, but no, she gave birth to a litter of pups a week later! Aimee

OK now I also posted on March 28 about chirping. Frit was doing it like non stop. they have a wheel ( 2 wheels) and a very large cage. I slowed down on all the treats about a month ago. They only get them 2x's a week rather than daily. they each get 2 sunflower seed or 2 chex cereal squares. I will try to pick him/her up today and see if I can feel for any pups. If I'm correct in thinking she is pregnant it should only be a week or so. I WILL keep you informed because I will need a whole lot of help then. lol Peg

Hi Peg When you pick her/him up, be carfull how you handle her as to much poking and proding could cause her to abort the babys inside her. The result could end up in as she will abort the babys and can even cause the death of the female. I dont mean to scare you, but just becareful how you handle her and try not to grab her. Normaly, she will show shes heavily pregnant in the last month or so. So it could be shes been pregnant for a while, like you say, the chirping going on in march, and now shes looking quite fat?
