Hey guys! After wanting a pet for company for a while, I looked in to getting some Degus. They seem to be ideal for my lifestyle, and I looked around in my area and found somebody looking to rehome 3 female Degus (sisters, about 2.5 years old). I’m picking them up tomorrow! I have cared for Pygmy Dormice in the past, but they were extremely skittish and weren’t an ideal pet for me (nocturnal, not very tame.) Degus seem to be the opposite of that! Really looking forward to looking after them and also getting to know you all. Looks like a great, knowledgeable community here! I’ll post some pictures of the girls tomorrow

Welcome to the forum joining the world of degu ownership is so exciting, but can be daunting. Don't worry to ask anything here, big or small. Trust me, we've all been through the random things these little fur balls do!

Welcome! Excited much? Ask away! There's no such thing as a silly question, as far as goos are concerned!

They're definitely wonderful, intelligent little creatures, with a personality unique to each degu. While they do have very specific care needs, once you get your head around them it's a breeze to give them everything they need.
This forum has been great for me as a new degu owner, the care information posted here is always up to date and as close to 100% accurate as you can get. I will say though, as a new degu owner, be wary of Degutopia.co.uk. I know they mean well, but much of their information is out of date, and in many cases just flat out incorrect. It was because of Degutopia's cage size calculator that I ended up wasting £140 on a completely inappropriate cage for them; a cage which made one of my boys depressed. Not all of their info is wrong, but I would cross-check anything you read there with what's posted here.

Hello, Anoldphilosopher!! Welcome to the forum!! They are a wonderful mix of cheeky, humorous, affectionate (in their own degu ways), domineering, and a bit challenging. Welcome to the ride.
