Introducing Chinook, by Chinchilla! He is about 2 years old, I got hi shortly after he could leave his mother and he has always been such a troublemaker, and honestly the clumsiest chin I have ever come across! He misses is jump about 90% of the time because He has to try impossible leaps! if it is a reasonable distance he has not problem, but most of the time he is trying to jump way to far, and he ends up looking like a clown! He Does not bather to jump off things, rather just flops off! He loves games, one being I put him in the window sill and he kind of just walks off the edge and falls into a pile of blankets on my bed, then he anxiously waits for me to put him up on the window sill again! He loves bouncing off walls and playing 'catch me if you can' He does not like direct handled much, and cuddling must be his worst nightmare. But he likes to jump around on my shoulders and head! He is my little clown, and such a precious boy! He did not want to wake up for pictures Love this curious expression on his face! One of his favorite places to play!

Aww, bless him! It might be worth safety proofing his cage as he is so clumsy. My two are generally pretty good, though to make up for that, they are little escape artists!! Have you taken him to the vets to rule out any eyesight issues? I love letting my chins out, recently I haven't been able to due to work being done to the house - which will be done soon, they have such fun bounding around they still have lots of space in the cage, so it isn't too bad.

I love letting my chins out, recently I haven't been able to due to work being done to the house - which will be done soon, they have such fun bounding around they still have lots of space in the cage, so it isn't too bad. I was worried about eyesight issues with him as well, but I am now convinced he is fine, I did several 'tests' to see if he could see fine, like I let him see his favorite treat, pecans, and let him watch me put it on a highish shelf, about the distance he misses and he did not miss by an inch a single time. I tried a few other things, but this was uite a while ago and a can't remember them in detail. Also he has never run into a door when he is jumping against walls, always perfect timing and distance and he has never had a problem in his cage that I am aware of. So I am sure he is fine. If it is not vitally important like treats or a game he just does not bother to do it right! I think it may be a part of his personality, he likes to be laughed at and it makes everyone laugh at him, so he may do it on purpose. I just have to be careful to make sure the bottom of any surface he can jump is padded so he has a nice landing.

I'd LOVE to see him playing the blanket game! It is definitely one of the cutest games I have had a critter play at! And he loves the attention it brings to him!

It is also best to minimise the height he can fall in the cage, as a precaution - (I've posted a link below of another forum talking about falling from heights) the padding is a good idea - what material do you use? www.chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-19608.html Also regarding the handling - pickle is a very skittish chinchilla, he prefers to sit on the back of my hand when it's scrunched up into a fist, and will often snuggle up to me that way! It's good to get them used to your hands, so you could even resting your hand near him or fiddling with something in the cage (they are very curious and usually come over) - it does take time to handle them I've had mine for 3 years now and they will only jump on me when they feel like it, I never push it, but I do entice them on with treats to keep that connection.
