Welcome to the forum.
Don't be afraid to ask questions if theres anything you are unsure of, with degus, there really is no such thing as a silly question.

Welcome to the forum Plain cotton is usually fine as it is a natural fibre so if they ingest any it will break down and get passed through the gut. What kind of mats?
