Ok so the play fighting between Enya and Prea seems to be becoming more frequent and beginning to get a little too rough. Has anyone else experienced slightly heightened aggression after pups are born?
I can't really tell what is going on...I think Enya is just annoying Prea (either wanting to play or mount) and Pres is getting annoyed with her resulting in a boxing match. No injuries or anything though.

It happens occassionally, it can be over competition for space or food. If all seems well with the babies and Prea is relaxed with you, it might be worth trying to sex the babies sooner rather than later and then you can make plans for who will live with who and you might be able to move Enya and Bertha out right away. It could also be that Enya is pregnant so she is feeling the competition for resources even more.

If we manage to get a free cage off Pets At Home do you know which is best to go for? I know they have awful choice. Prea, Enya and Prue are now sleeping with the babies in the nest box. Looks like they forgive and make up at the end of the day! Ha God help us if any of the others are pregnant too!

Maybe with the pets at home cage, you could connect it in some way to their current cage, to add lots more space.

There is only one all metal cage at PAH, it's called the thickets cage. If you can blag two out of them (tell them there are boys and girls) you can join them together to make something not too bad.
There was somebody in Wiltshire on the degutopia yahoo discussion group this morning looking for degus to introduce a lone female to, if you might be rehoming any of yours.

There was somebody in Wiltshire on the degutopia yahoo discussion group this morning looking for degus to introduce a lone female to, if you might be rehoming any of yours. So we managed to get P@H to give us a thickets cage + food, hay, bedding, nest box, dust and a bottle for free! Me and my partner have been trying to sex the 3 babies the last couple of days. We're 90% sure that 2 are male and 1 is female. However we may wait another few days and check again. That would be the ideal situation though as we can get the boys re-homed and keep the girl. They'll be 1 week old tomorrow! Here are a few snaps we took a couple of days ago... postimg.cc/image/gw0hca29d/

They're such sweeties! I presume the little girl is the grey cuddly one?
You sure you don't want to keep them all? You're going to find it difficult to give them to new owners, because they're little heartbreakers already!

Actually the grey beauty is a boy!
Oh we'd love to keep them all but we just don't have the money or space for 7...it will be tough letting them go though. We'll make sure to find them a good home. Heartbreakers for sure...spot on!

Oh Ryan they are gorgeous! How have the other girls adjusted to the new additions? They're are cuties! The're beginning to climb onto the other levels now, getting up is getting easier and easier for them - getting down not so much! ha The girls have been brilliant with them - Prue helps out the most with nest building and babysitting while Mum is off foraging and eating. Enya and Bertha don't seem as keen on helping out but are good with them and none of them seem to get annoyed when the little ones are pouncing all over them. All 7 of them sleep in the nest box at night...probably a bit of a squeeze but they manage!

Are you noticing any changes in girth with any of the other girls?

Are you noticing any changes in girth with any of the other girls? Not really, Enya and Prue seem the same and their weight is around 190-200g. We have noticed Bertha looking quite big but usually it's when she's hunched up and napping so we're assuming that's it. We're gonna continue to weigh them though. After reading some of the stories on here it is surprising that the other girls aren't pregnant if Prea was exposed to a male as they must have been too?

Were PaH able to give you an information about how she was exposed to a male, or any background that could help?

Were PaH able to give you an information about how she was exposed to a male, or any background that could help? No they were about as helpful as a fart in an astronaut suit! They told us they were about 3-4 months old but hadn't told us how long they actually had them in the shop. They did say they usually get them in a batch of 6...2 of one sex and 4 of another. We had the 4 girls so... Who knows!
