Hi everyone,
I'm going to try and keep this as short as I can. Basically last year we adopted what we thought was a male goo from PAH to be a pal with our current male goo. We did the whole introductory thing of separating the cage etc. One morning we came downstairs and saw that they had chewed through the wood barrier separating them, and were sat eating together all happy as Larry. So we took that as a good indication that they were ready to live with one another.
A couple of weeks later, we discovered that the newer goo was in fact a girl, due to our male goo humping her and doing a constant bark sound afterwards for half an hour. We confirmed our suspicions after checking her genitals. We separated them again but it was too late, and in April she gave birth to a litter of 4 goos. We bought them up extremely well, I read every single tip on degutopia, putting the dad back in after 6 days as it suggested she couldn't become pregnant for a while after this time.
Daddy goo was an amazing father helping bringing the kids up. Two weeks after the birth we separated them into completely separate cages so there was no risk of pregnancy.
Now we are in June and she is undoubtedly pregnant again. She is huge and I feel strong movement. She is also 317g, I'm guessing she is around 3 months pregnant so going to pop any day. This suggests that we shouldn't have ever put dad degu in at all, even though all sites say it's fine after 4 days (we did it in 6 to be safe) . We are at our witts end, we weren't able to sell the first litter so have so many goos already. This has all happened through no fault of our own and we are going to end up with at least 10 goos I know it.
Why would sites suggest mama goo can't become pregnant a few days after giving birth when they can? Can anyone suggest what the best place is to give the goos too, as we haven't the money for so many and I don't want to risk giving them to someone non trustworthy.
Many thanks.
