Hello Everyone,
I posted in June 2014 about my one chinchilla who has eye tears on both eyes. To refresh everyone's mind from what I found out when I took her to the vet...
"She has corneal lipid deposits on her eyes. The vet has seen them in dogs and cats. They form if the animal has a high cholesterol diet or they just sometimes appear for no apparent reason. Chompress definitely doesn't have a high cholesterol diet.
There isn't anything that can be done, it's one of those things that can get worse or it'll stay the same. The worse thing that could happen is a corneal ulcer, I'm hoping this doesn't happen as it would be very painful for her.
I just have to watch for any pawing and/or discharge of the eyes."
Anyway, this brings me to today. Last night I noticed she had a milky white discharge coming out of the corner of her one eye while she ate her sugar free shredded wheat treat. I thought maybe I was seeing things but I watched again tonight and it was the same thing. Now I'm very concerned and I will be booking an appointment with an exotic pet vet when I get up in the morning. I have a new vet for my pets, as the other vet has moved. So maybe he'll be able to tell me something different about the tears on her eyes & why Chompress is now discharging from the one eye.
I haven't noticed her pawing at her face nor I have noticed any drooling around her mouth. So hopefully, this doesn't have anything to do with her teeth. As for her weight...on January 5, 2015 she weighed 793 and her current weight (I weighed her on March 25) is 759. So really a 34 gram loss in the last almost 3 months isn't anything to be concerned about unless she continues to lose weight. I'll be weighing her on a weekly basis for the next little while.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
Jenny
