We now have nine lovely chinchillas, all boys, each one has a different personality, but all are used to being handled and are all extremely friendly and relaxed with both us and each other. Most of our evenings are taken up with caring for them and interacting with them, but all well worth it for the reward received in return from them. Two of our chins are rescue, and one of them in particular has taken a lot of hard work due to him been abused as a baby. He's fine now, and I have a very special bond with him. We are both fine and enjoying life with our menagerie.

It must be really special forming bonds with small animals who live so long

It is Moletteuk. This little chin came to us at six months old. He had been abused, deprived of toys, love and correct diet. His stress was off the scale, he had diarrhoea with fright when we gave him toys, and would not eat hay. We've treated him holistically for his physical issues - the psychological damage has taken many months of love and patience. He's now the correct weight for his age, loves to interact with both of us, and will happily sit and snuggle with me. He has several fleece items in his cage which he sleeps with, and croons to when happy, which is more often than not. His diet is 50% natural, and it is lovely to see him blossoming into the beatiful little chinchilla he really is. This is Zulu .

Glad to hear that he is happy now. I bet he has taken a real liking to you now that he has been nurtured and cared for wonderfully!

Glad to hear that he is happy now. I bet he has taken a real liking to you now that he has been nurtured and cared for wonderfully! He has Jamiee. It's my rest day today so he's been out for his run early this morning. He popcorns round the chin room and then bounces on and off my legs as I sit on the floor with him. When he gets tired, he hops up on my shoulder and plays with my hair and chatters away to me, and then checks all my pockets for treats, before going back in his cage to bed. Attachment Deleted

That's great, it's amazing how an animal can end up being friends with a person as if the person were an animal, if they are loved and cared for.
