Well, if you're so determined and think you can cope with babies, I would say you need to do lots of research NOW as to what's best nutritionally speaking etc. for degu babies and nursing mums, how to sex babies, how to socialise them, when to seperate babies etc etc. I hope you have plenty of cages, suitable birthing quarters etc too. and money to pay for an emergency caesarian if something goes wrong....... I still think you'd be best to get your male degu neutered.

Well then things should work out well. She sounds like quite the character. Yes, you will want to check with your vet about sterilization if you don't want Mokka pregnant. I think that's the only sure way to prevent puppies. I believe a couple of our members had their male Degu sterilized. There is always a risk though.

When I think about the risk I go panic! My beloved baby ... I already read some degu books about the pragnancy. And I'm sure that if he'll "do his work" he'll alarm me (as they always do). I have got two cages (one with 3 condignations and second with 2) plus the cariage box. I know some shops with very high standards. As snake food they use mices (they are 20 times cheaper)

You cannot rely on any warning system. These are animals you are dealing with, it is in their nature to mate. If you insist on keeping males and females together, and cant provide homes for the offspring that WILL be the result, you need to have one of the adults neutered as soon as possible. And the female checked to see if she is already pregnant.

I understand what you are trying to say Nat, but i realy think youve read alot of false information. Only mating in spring? Sorry Nat, but where ever you read that is VERY wrong! Females dont realy have "seasons" like dogs and cats, females tend to come into season when ever they sense a male around. This is due to keeping the numbers up in the wild, so they havent got to wait. Nat, please think a little more, its not to late, if you have two cages, get another male for the male you have, and put another female in with your new female. No babies! I think your English is pretty good, although we do get a little muddled up with what you try to get across somtimes, but a the end of the day, your English is better that my Polish! If you dont want to get more Degus to split your male and female up, take a look at the Breeding and Baby care part of the forum, as these are from a good source, and from personal experience- my personal experience! And Ill tell you now, babies are hard work!

If I'm reading Nat's post correctly I think what she is saying is the only sure way to separate the male & female is to give the female back to the pet store or breeder. I also believe she's saying she didn't actually read anywhere that Degus only breed in the spring but that that is what she observed with her former pair over a two year period.

Him growling sounds like hasnt got used to her yet, there still getting to know each other,as with all Degus when you first put them together, if you know what i mean. Maybe it is better that you take her back and get a boy instead or see if you can rehome her BUT, they might not take her if she is allready pregnant.

I have to agree with aimee. Keeping a male and female together is risky, if you cant get them neutered, getting one re-homed is the best, but you need to know if she is already carrying pups. How long have they been together now? And how did you go about introducing them?

They are together for 5 days. They sleep together but when she wants to play, he goes away or bark at her.

Perhaps she's just too aggressive or forward for him. Have you checked to see if you could exchange her for another male or have you decided to keep her?

I don't think I could. It was a lot of work to get her. It's difficult to find adult degu :/

That may have some impact on how they act towards each other now. Have you booked to see the vet yet to see if she is carrying pups, and get the male neutured?

ok, so if you dont have to book to see the vet, why havent you gone? this has to be done as soon as you can!
how did you introduce the degus? the behaviour of the female sounds like she is trying to be the dominant one. How long were they seperated before bringing them together?

the day I bought her I put her to him. She's rather horny :? She put her ... ass (I don't remember polite versions ) in front of his face and get her tail up ... He's very dominant.

you SHOULDNT have put them together right away! That was a very silly thing to do. visit the main website for info on how you should have introduced them to further your understanding. The behaviour you talk about suggests you need to visit the vet as soon as you can. Your actions have been very careless. You should haave done much more research before buying another degu!
