I should post my news, I have just moved house. Totally traumatic for both me and my degus!! Wihile I am now fairly settled, poor Dougal especially is struggling to adjust to the new surroundings, very jumpy and nervous! I am doing my best to reassure them all, but considering he spends a significant amount of each day on his wheel, its upsetting that he hasnt yet had a single run on it!!

I thought the hair would begin to grow again on Mocha's feet since she seems so much more herself but it hasn't. As long as there is nothing wrong with her I won't worry about it.
I've started to leave the Degu Girls loose in my bathroom with me. It's been a lot of fun and goes a long way to improving our relationships. Tanzania ran up my body and sat on my shoulder for a moment. Mocha crawled up into the crook of my elbow and groomed my arm a bit. Biggest problem I had was getting them to return to the carrying cage so I could take them back downstairs!!
Played with them again yesterday. Convinced my husband and dad to come sit with us too. Tanzania was out and running in a flash. Sat on my dad's sock covered foot and gnawed a bit on Sam's shoe. Took a little coaxing to get Mocha to come out. Sam got a few good pictures I will post later. They are hard to photograph because they are so quick. I got to laughing when Tanzania crawled up inside my pant leg. Just got a shot of her before she hopped back out.

hey, that sounds like a good idea! lately i've been just taking them out and perching them on my shoulder. they run from one shoulder to the other, but not much else. they'd probably have more fun being able to climb all over me without me worrying about them escaping. plus i bet the linoleum floor makes it easier to catch them, since they'd have less grip.

well that was weird. i took the cage into the bathroom and just opened the cage doors so they could go wherever they wanted, and they ran around on the floor for a bit but didn't climb on anything except the cage, and then they started making that teeth-chattering noise. why would they be upset about having more space to run around in? i've never heard them make that noise until now.

The first time I let Mocha out she was frightened and preferred staying in the cage. (I posted a detailed description of the outing elsewhere on this forum...)
I think Tanzania's curiousity took over and Mocha followed once she saw Tanzania wasn't going to be eaten by anything.
The girls reacted similarly to yours Diet Otaku, when I took them outside in their play ball. I think the wide open was too much for them. I'll bet your Degus will adjust. I sat on the floor with them and fed them a few treats. May take a little time.

well, then i'll just have to keep trying! it was pretty fun watching them run around wherever they pleased... except when they scratched at the carpet by the door trying to get out.
