I have been trying my degus with all sorts of vegetably goodies and different boxes and toys in their cage.
I have found that they thoroughly enjoy having several boxes big enough for them to hide in/ scamper through (ie small easter egg boxes) together in a bundle and they chew holes in them to create tunnels. Sadly this only lasts for a maximum of about a day before the boxes actually become sawdust but they love it! Mine also have a large rat rope which stretches from one side of the cage to the other and they spend a lot of time running along it and they prefer it to the wooden platforms and stairs to reach the upper levels of their cage :0)
I have tried them with a selection of veggies but havent found any they are particularly keen on yet although they have taken a liking to sunflower seeds of late.
Please post any ideas you have for treats/ food or other things that you have found degus enjoy in their cages...

Virgil loves a few blueberries and small bits of raw sweet potato.

The favourite treat in my cage has always been an empty egg box with a scattering of bran flakes under a tightly packed layer of tissue. the box is then shut, and they have to chew it up, and get the tissue out before they can get at the treats. Keeps them busy for ages!!
