WOW!! You really did a stellar job of keeping everything in hand. I am sure the boy you care for was likely alarmed by the condition of the little one, and the changes that needed to be made for Paul, the appearance of the pups etc., well . . . what a day!! You will be so thankful for your weekend to rest and recover.

Thanks for posting the information about the vet visit and the anencephaly, it all adds to the knowledge base on the forum and might help somebody in the future.
Do point your employers in our direction, we might be able to help as they find their feet with the degus and we can offer tips and size advice for the new cage being built, it needs to be much bigger than people tend to realise.

Unfortunately they aren't "computer people" but I will pass along the website. Right now they are building it in their heated subfloor (sort of like a basement) but well heated and ventilated. It's about, I'd estimate 4ftx4ft right now, and they plan on building up with a platform. They do have a friend with a Chinchilla that apparently has been helping out and recommended the vet they are using. They actually had an appointment scheduled next week (when the wife goes on Spring Break) because they were worried about how chunky Molly was getting. Problem solved there, I suppose. They are very good people who do well for the pets, I assure you. The decision to take the degus in rather than take them to a humane society was a big one for them, since they also own two large dogs and two cats (neither are allowed in the basement, thus where the degus will live, even though the other animals don't really bother them right now in the living room). They were just unfortunately operating under the belief that both were females.

Hi just wanted to give an update. All the baby degus are still healthy and happy. Paul is back with them and they are co-parenting, which is pretty awesome to watch. Hopefully I'll be able to share some pictures in the next week, since I as only there briefly this week.

Hi! SO very glad to hear and update!
Male degus are amazing fathers and a great help with the raising of the young. Should just give you a heads up though, or perhaps I should say your employers a heads up. Female degus have a 21 day cycle, so even though Paul was removed from the Momma after the pups were born, 21 days following the birth day of the pups, she would have been in oestrus again, and in condition to conceive again. Soooo . . . there remains the real potential of new pregnancies.
