My lot are going nuts for fresh cherry leaves this week. I saw Scratchy picking himself some rose leaves earlier. Daddy left the potted bush close enough to the outdoor cage that when it grew, they could get to it. I wouldn't have given them to him but I'm not worried about them. Soon the rosa rugosa in next door's hedge will be in bloom - the goos love the petals of those and I can dry lots.

I took this list of safe USA plants octodons.ch/index.php/Herbs mentioned above, copied it to a Word document and clicked on the links in the document so I could add a picture to my Word document. I plan to load this document to my tablet so that I can take it with me when I go plant hunting in my local area.

Maybe you could get a little guide book to take with you at first? Or maybe I'm a bit old fashioned!?

I'm going foraging today, going to try to find some elderberries and other fruit for me and my Dan, get as much suitable fresh stuff for the goos as I can. Hopefully they'll like it! We go foraging at Cosmeston Lakes which is a nature reserve, so it's all natural and chemical free I use the Collins Gem book Food For Free which is a brilliant little book as well as my knowledge gained from living in the backend of beyond for 19 years!!

As well as cherries, plums, blackberries and elderberries by the ton for us, found a load of rosehips which the girls love! So funny watching them eat them. They're really slippery because of their shiny skin so Crumble especially is having a hard time keeping hold of them! Only give them one each, and Crumble has worked out that the hammock is the best place to eat it so it won't escape whilst Cookie hides in a corner and devours it eagerly

Did you get some plants and branches for the goos too? Also they can have hawthorn berries, they are smaller so less of a sugar problem (although still not something to feed often).

Ah, didn't realise they could have hawthorn; there are tonnes of them in Cosmeston! I'll get some branches when I'm there next too.

Ah, didn't realise they could have hawthorn Yes, they can get it. But start with small amounts so that they can learn to cope with the thorns. And make sure they can't hurt while running through the cage.

Wild foraging time is well underway again. Just get out there and have a look, it's not as difficult as you think and your goos will really benefit in health and enrichment. Let me know if you guys can think of any other ways I can make plant ID any easier for beginners, I know quite a few of you feel nervous about foraging.
