I am doing to try and word this as delicately as i can.
Does anyone else have the same experience or know whether it is normal.
I am quiet sure my Degu boys are gay. i dont mean playing with each other..... i mean going all the way with the barking following.
I just wanted to get peoples opinons on this, and whether it is something they just do. sorry if it is awkward.

My two girls try with each other aswel, but I've always kept girl rabbits and they always tried also. Just figured it was the same and didn't worry too much about it. x

Are you positive that they are both boys? As the barking after mounting is usually a sign of mating, and pet shops are pretty bad at sexing degus. Check out the sexing guide just to double check deguworld.proboards.com/thread/13070/degusHowever, humping in itself between degus of the same sex is completely normal, and they can sometimes really get into it if they're feeling particularly excited/agitated. I've just never come across them barking afterwards.

Thanks for the help. I am quiet sure that they are both boys, they both seem to have the distance. i just spent half an hour trying to see there bits and pieces as they are still to skittish for me to pick them up, but i am sure.
well im guessing thats why anyway. it happens stright after they get frisky

I think this is normal, they are just making use of the facilities available, it doesn't mean they wouldn't be interested if there was a girl around. I think the barking is associated with the successfully scattering of the seed, rather than exactly where they planted it

Bee and loki (brothers and def both boys) used to hump each other and bark whenever the cage was cleaned or altered, if there was a new smell in the flat or if anything changed (however tiny) it was a dominance thing but always made me blush if we had company!!! I kind of miss that now I am in the middle of an introduction to a new goo! at least they would be starting to work out who is boss rather than just sizing each other up!
Good luck

Perfectly normal. Gotta keep reminding who's boss. Gotta reclaim the cage after it's been cleaned and smells differently. Gotta do what nature drives them to do, with whoever is available.
Besides, let me assure you that humping degus is no big deal. You should see humping budgies and parrotlets. I do, all the time, in my living room where the big bird cages are. Sometimes three or more involved together. Talk about obvious and embarrassing!

If you think budgies are bad. i have two male tortoises. you can hear their shells banging together from the other side of the garden!

LOL! Good grief!! You all seem to live in pools of hormone driven "action!" How do you stay sane??

It's Spring!!!!! Along with my goo boys' usual, I have budgies going at it (sometimes in a threesome), finches singing, dancing & going at it, and my new parrotlets are going at it, including the two sisters, with each other!!! I guess it was a wise choice to put the "birds" first in "the birds and bees". yeesh.

Sorry but this thread has made me lol. And while we're all sharing my dog (girl) likes to do it to her basket.

If they were gay does it matter? Homosexuality has been found in many animals, however as people have said, this is normal. Hormones effect degus differently than they do humans...

Our standard poodle gets down right randy with my daughters giant teddy bear. The bear is about three feet tall, and Queenie watches to be sure no one is looking, then jumps on top and goes for it. OI!! She loves that bear!

They have stopped now for a little while and the dominance has now changed.
Skatt did it to himself the other day while my friend was over. they really dont have any shyness do they!
My cat used to try and have it away with my dads arm and my aunts dog used to with slippers. It seems that is animals have the urge they just go for it where ever and when ever!

Itchy (RIP) and Scratchy decided to put on a display of boy-on-boy degu just when our gay human friend came over...he jokingly asked if they were doing it for his benefit ;-)

today I had twin sister parrotlets going at it, their brother and his girlfriend taking turns being on top, non-stop budgie action (I swear, that rope perch gets BURNED tomorrow, I don't care if they DO like the way it bounces), finches doing their "puffy dance" in three different cages, and then of course, the degu boys doing their thing to each other and all over the cage, as it got cleaned today.
Yeesh. I should put this house on the 'net and sell subscriptions. Can't wait until spring is past.
