Just a little hello, and back story, i always wanted to get some degus and after alot of research and talking with pet shops ended up rescuing Squeaker a 6 month old goo from pets at home, but they said that cause or her or her cage mates fighting she'd lost a bit of her tail and couldn't/ should never be kept with others which after what i'd read and heard was a bit odd. As times gone on i've noticed her showing more signs that she is in fact lonely and after reading some post on here about pets at home come to the conclusion they probably sold all her siblings then put a different group of goos into her cage which proably caused the bickering. Anywho we now have Riku and Risa as of yesterday and they have a cage next to Sqeaks they've been fine over night and sharing dust baths to spread each others scents and this afternoon had a good supervised session in a neutral zone, but arent going to share cages for atleast a week or 2, but all is well for just 24hours, and you can see that squeaks has just be itching for some goo companions, theres been a marked improvement, but bring me to wonder how long they kept here on her own and why they havent tried to do things properly. but hey 3 degus rescued from their clutches. and proably more in the future after we move.

awwwwwwwwwwww welcome to the forum kaitoudegu! sounds like a happy start, and yes, i think you have made the right decision to start introductions, its a lonely life for a degu without any degu buddies!! im afraid i couldnt offer any real advice concerning the introductions as i havent exactly done any big ones myself.. i say "big" meaning, i originally got my first baby "chips" not knowing anything about degus, actually thinking he was a chipmunk (says it all really) but after joining this forum a couple of days later realized that i must get him a friend and went the next week and got "chips", the difference in my case was that they were brothers and had only been separated for 7 days, they bonded that same day! all i do know from what i have read here (this is a FANTASTIC FORUM!!!!!) is, take it slowly, not to rush things and if things do seem to take a bad turn, dont give up.. it may take you months but im sure (hopefully) you´ll get there in the end and squeaker will be forever grateful!!! the most important advice i can offer you is, be patient! ps...not sure if my post is a bit scatter brains, i havent had a good week...lol

Well done, Kaitoudegu! It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of things. Welcome to the forum. As Nuttz said, we are a great group, and her advice for intros is good. Patience is definitely a BIG part of successful intros!

i agree with patience, but cuz of how well they seem i felt it warrented a supervised meeting and cuz that was a success all is well but i'm not going to put them the same cage for a while but maybe very other day they can have a lil cuddle session like they had today was very cute lol

Another new member here, though not a new degu owner. Have used your forum quite regularly for info without realizing that I wasn't officially signed up!!! Started as Mum to two, then four and now six beautiful girlies. My house is quite a menagerie already with dogs, cat, snake, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits. (Some of whom are fostered for my local RSPCA branch) Each night differs in the number of residents, last night was 20 to include a poorly pigeon, tonight is 21 with the new girlies arrival and the pigeons recovery and release!! So Hi to you all and thanks for the advice I've already received. Sam x

Welcome xxx I'm sure there can never be too many of us on here xx I'm quite new to the forum too ( maybe month or 2 ) and I have found everyone very helpful when I needed advice. Even if I just fancied a chat with like minded crazy degu lovers I'm sure you will be made very welcome and your questions will be answered when you need them to be xx

Welcome to the forum, Sam99!! Sounds like you have loads of experience under your belt already! It is great to have you "officially" join us as a member. Now you can read and respond, rather than just reading. It will be great to have your input, and to get to know you a bit.
