Hi. Got two Degus just before Christmas and love them to bits. They're about 6-7 months. One is more of a grey colour and the other the more prolific brown. It didn't take either of them to work out these humans make good climbing frames and to find out what hair tasted like, though I suspect it was more to try and hatch an escape plan from the pen we set up for them in our living room. They also pointed out to us where the wallpaper wasn't quite stuck down properly I have already made use of the information on this site, so thanks for a great forum

Hello Sona, and welcome to the forum!! So glad to hear that you've already found it useful to you, and I hope you will continue to find it so. It is great to meet you, and to hear how you got your degus, and how they are making themselves at home in your hearts and home. Already voicing decorating opinions, too, the cheeky little mites! LOL!

Hey folks, My name is Tommy from Scotland, just found this when i was looking for an answer to one of my boys squeaking. Got it though and no alarms (phew). So i adopted my Goos about a year and a half ago from Pets at Home when they were about 8 months old, No cruelty involved the family just didn't want them anymore. Quickly i noticed that the biggest cage Pets at home had for me just wasn't gonna cut the mustard so i built them a home inside our to become part of the family (trying to show pics-) .... resized 3 of my pics to under 500KB but it would let me upload them? Maybe an issue to be fixed later, anyway i built them an enclosure in the house, 4 levels so plenty for them to run around in and keep busy, if anybody is thinking of building an enclosure i'd love to share my experiences with you.
Hi again lol Tommy

Welcome to the forum Tommy! I'm glad you managed to find the answer to your question, if you have any more then feel free to ask, as you'll no doubt know by now degus are pretty weird creatures! As for the pictures, you can only upload one at a time via the forum, or you can use an image hosting site like photobucket and use a bit of code to put them all up together! Lrak has a thread on how to post them stickied in the photo section! We'd love to hear your stories on the cage build, maybe you could put the photos up in the "Show us your cage" thread over in the cages, houses and accessories section?

A warm welcome to you, tommy We'd love to hear more about your little punks (good word for them lol) and their cage. Let me know if you still have problems with photos, a hosting site is definitely the way to go if you want to post a few at a time.

Hey guys,
I have only had my two male degus for about 4 months. I had them out today in their play area a loud noise scared one of them so he went to hide but ran into the side of their nesting box,he seems to have injured his back leg but can still walk on it. I'm a bit worried as he is now sitting in their house sleeping is this normal as I'm worried and can't get him to the vet until tomoz!
Any advice would be great. Thank you

When they have experienced a huge scare, it can induce a brief period of deep fatigue. This should pass and you should see him behaving normally by tomorrow or earlier. However, if he has a leg injury, you may see him continuing to favour it. Just keep an eye on him and let him rest.
