All I can think of is if she is pregnant then she'll balloon after two months (when she enters the third trimester). Is this a planned mating or was it a mis sexed pair?

We were told they were both males. I looked at them and knew they were male and female. Had them checked out and they are male and female.... So no it was not planned. We are getting him done next week hopefully. Shes made a nest and put on some weight.

The weight gain could be growth with them being young? I can't say I know much about the pregnancy side of things, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can help. I only asked out of curiosity, especially since if she is pregnant then as soon as she gives birth she can get pregnant again but it sounds like you're getting things sorted

Degus have an approx 90 days of gestation. It is difficult to say if she is pregnant from recent matings, or if they mated earlier and could be further along in a pregnancy. You'll have to keep an eye on her. Around 2-3 weeks before delivery is expected, you can find nipples protruding along her sides. To find them, imagine her body like a square, and the nipples will be along the "edge" of her body that is the equivalent of the two bottom corners. However, you will see MASSIVE weight gain if she is carrying 5 or more pups. The most any of our girls have had was 7 pups, and they start to resemble an agouti coloured tennis ball with a cute little head on top and a tail. I expect that you have a fair amount of time yet before you will know anything for sure.
Which will be good if you are planning to have your boy fixed next week. You don't want to have back on back pregnancies!! He can recover from his surgery and rejoin her to help care for the pups as well, since male degus are excellent fathers.

Hello all! I've had what I thought was a male degu (Draco) for nearly a year now. I rescued 'him' from my cousin who had to move to a new home without pets only a couple months since he bought him from the breeder. 'he' was the last degu of the litter and so of course only got the one then. Now, my aunt came for thanksgiving and asked me if I had sexed Draco yet, which surprised me because they had told me he was male. Anywho, I did the research and I feel that after all this time I actually have a little lady. I took a pic of her 'bits' but I don't know how to upload it. This is probably written somewhere (sorry I'm a noob), can someone post a link to that info?
Are females harder to tame than males? I have a huge cage that my old chinnie used to live in, but Draco would have to stay in the basement by herself in there, so I moved her into a smaller aquarium so she can be in my room all the time with me. This has helped tremendously; she adores belly rubs and snacks and listens to me talk to her, but she will not tolerate be held at all, and she 'grooms' too hard even drawing blood. My mom has discovered that she settles down if she presses gently on her back/shoulders after she grooms to hard; is there something to this? A behavioral dominance thing? I'll look that up myself too, but thought I'd ask around for opinions on this to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=world&action=display&thread=16328Hello Afriel444, and welcome to the forum!! We usually recommend that when a degu grooms you too hard that you emit a loud, high pitched, squeak like a degu would in the same situation. Sometimes you will need to squeak a few times in a row to get the idea across that is hurts, and you may have to do it a few grooming sessions in a row, but she will start to learn what is just too much and lighten her touch. Lots of degus do not like to be picked up, and much prefer to walk on to your hands. So to encourage this, we recommend that you find the treat that they ADORE and cannot ignore, and in doing so, you find the way to pull her in. Look through this thread and give several things in the treats lists a try. We have a young boy that has steadfastly REFUSED to find delight in ANYTHING I have offered. I've been trying for MONTHS! Then, just last week, I thought I think I'll try a Brazil nut on him. WELL!! I've found his Kryptonite!! So now when I come to him and am doing some hand training, I bring tiny bits of a cut up Brazil nut, and every time he comes to me, I give him some. When he climbs up to my shoulder, I give him some. When he comes when I call his name, I give him some. He is LOVING this Brazil nut stuff! LOL! So, find her kryptonite and you'll have an excellent training tool.

bill is about 5months old not sure about the female.... She doesnt like to be picked up so i cant feel for nipples of feeling babies in her tummy. We are pretty much sorted i just dont want to stress her out with the move if she is pregnant. She did like the vet and had to be taken into a dark room....... As for Afriel444 i did the squeak noise and it worked now i say ouch and he knows hes getting excited when grooming.
