No bother we've all been there at one point, and all the different boards can be a bit daunting at first!

Hello Firsttimeowner! Welcome to the forum and to the world of degus! You've been give tons of great information and help, so I see no need to add to it at this point. Just know that we encourage the asking of questions here, ALL questions, as degus are just weird and do weird stuff, so nothing is considered stupid.

Thank yous all, I am making great progress with my degu I'm now sitting near the cage and open the door and he will carry on doing whatever, Ive also had him eat from my hand and he's climbed over it but he will sometimes when alone squeak loudly! Until I come to the room I'm considering getting him a friend and ive read about how to introduce them and will read more, I only do not know his age! would this affect getting another degu?

Not necessarily. Only those degus that are quite young, 3 months and under, are easily put together. Young degus of 6--8 weeks are usually fairly easy to introduce to adults, as adults both male and female are excellent care givers for pups. However the process of adolescence from age 5ish months upwards to 18 months can be a very chaotic time and degus that were getting along can suddenly fall out with each other. Adult to adult is also doable, but like most introductions, it can take a fair span of time.
