Quick random stupid question lol.
I know veg has sugars in and that you need to be careful how much of what they get but how much is a portion of veg and how often should it be fed?
Currently orderimg some rat rations dried veg. I've just ordered a small amount of everything that's safe to see what they like but dont really know how much they can have at a time and can't find the answer I want in the forums?
Kind of ashamed of their diet at the mo Science select biscuits hay and random bought forage I want to improve it alot

Veg isn't something we recommend actually, although you may find that your degus really enjoy the dried veg. It could be a great treat for them!! I wouldn't make it part of their daily food though. As you said, it is higher in sugars than is forage. There is a lot of forage choices out there, and there are members on here that have excellent lists of what they use. Hmmmm . . . hold on a blink, and I'll see what I can find. Here is a link for you to look through. Hopefully it will give you some really good leads on what you can look for. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15670/homemade-mixesThese are internet shops that you can look through that have been found to supply good things. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15794/internet-shops-specialist-degu-foodsI seem to recall a thread where several members posted lists of foods that they feed, all that were forage bought from internet shops. I just can't seem to find that thread. RATS! However, I am sure there will be others to reply and help you out further. I hope these are helpful to you!!

I use dried veg as treats, mine get a few tiny pieces a day, so something like 2 to 5 pieces equivalent to the size that the green peppers from Ratrations or Hansemanns come in. Because of the sugar content, you need to think about other things that may contain sugars or quickly digested carbs, so Science Select nuggets contain carbs so feed the veg at a different time to those (and think about adding in a grain free pellet), things like roots such as dandelion are quite starchy, JRFarm Grainless Guinea has some veg and tiny amounts of apple in, so you should avoid that at the same time of day. Any signs of increased weeing and drinking or cataracts and cut back the veg and reconsider all veg and carbs. You will see in our nutrition charts that green leafy veg like spinach or broccoli is much less of an issue sugar-wise, but you also need to be careful of those due to oxalic acid in spinach and gas produced from brassicas. Like always, it's a case of everything in moderation. Forage is really the thing to think about introducing in a variety and in larger quantities, that's where the biggest gains in health and enrichment are. emily could you post your up to date list of stuff from RR and Zooplus here, please?

Ah sorry DL, I didn't see your comment otherwise I could have linked some items while I was ordering! The ones I order for my goos regularly are linked in this post here (and ingredients are translated to the best of my ability): deguworld.proboards.com/post/145903The links should take you to a page where you choose the amounts you want of each one, if you add the size item you'd like then add it to the basket. And the beginning of an excel table for everything suitable (most of main mixes are on there at the moment) drive.google.com/file/d/0ByOdu-VlBb3Pa3JDOEN6YVZtY3c/view?usp=sharingYou then take the screenshot of the basket once you've added everything that you want and send an email to info@hansemanns-team.de attaching the screenshot and just saying something along the lines of "Hi, I'd like to put in an order to the UK. Please find attached a screenshot of my order. The delivery address is: ------- Thanks, Name" If you need help then send me a PM

I was like a kid at Christmas when I got home to this Safe to say I'm going to have some very happy girls tomorrow. It smells amazing So I totally stole this list of forages from bexi as I had no idea where to start. Mine usually get science select biccys which they love but my god there's squeaking every day with this mix they love it! Funny how only 2 of my 4 like the flowers while the other to prefer the big plantain leaves. Thankyou for sharing your list bexi it's helped loads. Hopefully this is a much better diet for them than what they had before:)
