Sorry I did not in this section. I could not find. What are the cultures of degus in Germany? I plan to purchase racial, but I completely did not know of any culture. Please help. Marlena.

Are you asking about different colours of degu?

Yes, yes. Colorful degus are beautiful. I would love this.

You need to be very careful with coloured or patterned degus. They have usually been selectively bred and/or inbred to achieve the colour and are often less healthy. I would not recommend breeding them

I agree with Molette, the different colours are seriously inbred and nearly all have health issues. It can leave to shorter life span as well, if you want degus the agouti ones are pretty d**n awesome

Finding the different colours can be very difficult, even in countries that have large numbers of degus, because of the fact that they come from recessive genes that are brought out due to excessive inbreeding. As said by both Listracian and Moletteuk, degus that have these colours tend to be less healthy and to have a shorter life span. Though they are lovely . . . and certainly do deserve homes . . . we do not advocate breeding for them.

Thank you very much for your answers. So I thought that they are less healthy. Well. I will not choose. Settle our, beautiful agouti. It helped me. Thank you: * It can leave to shorter life span as well, if you want degus the agouti ones are pretty d**n awesome Live shorter? About how many years? In Poland, degus live on average 5/6 years, how many of you?

I'm fairly sure, if I've read correctly, that Marlena has no intention of actually 'breeding degus'. I think the title was meant to read 'degu breeds'

Sorry for the bad name of the topic :(I do not know English so well. In Poland, live much shorter. But here, most have inadequate conditions. PS It is very hot. I gather herbs!

Don't worry Marlena, your english is better than my polish! So if you do not intend to breed, then it is a matter of personal choice whether you want to risk dealing with the health risks of coloured degus, and whether you wish to support a shop selling them. Have fun collecting herbs!
