My idiot aunt has really annoyed me, she was going on about how vicious Degus were, now me and Charlie are in love, seriously he licks my ear and snuggles up to sleep and he has NEVER bitten me I can handle his food, brush him no problem he has spoilt me with good behaviour. This video is really showing how good he is, how NOT vicious and bitey degus are and frankly anyone who says they are is gonna get a ass whooping frankly. youtu.be/H-MISBhQXIk

Oh god I get that all the time with my rats! Everyone is convinced that I just picked them straight out of the sewer and I'm going to get wheelers disease lol With my goos I just get...... what is that?

i really hate it when people say that about rats because they are so loving, not evil or nasty at all. and as for Degus, i have never heard any stories about nasty ones, mine have bit me once but that was because they were stressed out, not because they are nasty

Degus can be incredibly gentle, I've let mine groom my eyelashes with no worries whatsoever. It must be sooo frustrating for rat keepers that rats are so misunderstood by the general public

I had the same problem with my rats and it is so damned annoying, they have no idea how sweet, loving, gentle, kind and adorable they are, I recently lost the love of my ratty life Cookie and honestly if someone kicks off say this "my rats are as different to wild rats in the same extream as a poodle is different to a wolf, they are domesticated, sweet and tame and are just as intelligent as dogs, you will never know a more loving pet the only thing is the prejudice of ignorant people against the name Rat."
I was in pets at home looking for stuff for charlie and looked at the rats and a man passed said "disgusting dirty animals." I looked up disgusted "in that single statement you have told me your a ignorent uneducated moron who judges by reputations." I then went back to admiring the rats they had some lovely ones in the adoption section black top eared sooooo sweet.

Haha, I have 28 beautiful little rat girls and I find that MOST people are quite curious as to why I keep them. I don't often get "eewww" anymore, thankfully. Occasionaly at the vets, I'll get "what is that?", to which my response is now always a sharp "SHE'S a rat". Lord help anyone who actually insults a rat infront of me these days. I feel such an affection for them and I'm very passionate about their care, health and happiness. They really are my favourite animal.

Yeah, my girls won't go in the basket when we go to the vets. Always in my coat! lol. They don't 'do' carriers! haha.
I had 30 at one point, but I've recently lost my beautiful Amy and Millicent. They were very special girls.

I think it's a common misconception - we got that when we said we were getting our Goos.. 'Urgh, nasty, bitey, scratchy things' But then again if some had Degus in a small cage and gacve them no attention then you could see how they could get that way - some of the ones in P@H are like that with the over crowding and lack of toys.
