Super duper fantastic! Ignore me modifying the first link, I didn't think it was working, but then it was Also I tried to leave a comment on the blog but messed that up somehow, something to do with IDs. Anyway, I love the design and imagination and detail of everything. I think the special uses and areas are fantastic and I love all the detail of the perches and ledges, I'm certain they will love all of it! I'd love to hear all about the goos reactions when they moved in

Thank you both. Hope to get another article up about the sliding doors before the weekend.
Saturday is going to take most of the day as to move the box to it's location I have to take everything out again to lift. Lol
Then I have to reassemble it, then start putting all their stuff in it. It will be funny to see them in two Thickets cages as the contents decreases - I expect lots of accusing 'You stole my wheel' looks, then 'You stole my hammock', 'You stole my...' etc Then they will lose their little minds!
It's going to be great.

Thank you all. I have put pictures up in the Show Us Your Cage thread. Really great feeling to finally have something that is much more natural and stimulating for them. And it's huge! The really cool thing is we have Mrmarky's ladder to use and the custom hammock that Fuzzymum made for us never got properly used before but they have slept in it all this weekend! ;D

Hello again! I have been keeping tabs on everyone but haven't managed to post as much as I would have liked. I have also neglected my blog so I need to add a whole load of articles and pictures given part of my absence has been due to the fact we made the cage, put them in it and modified it about 2/3 weeks later. I am pleased to say having lived with the build for about two months our relationship has improved no end with our girls, especially since the modifications. MrMarky's ladder has been a huge success and enabled a much more relaxed play time which means we do it for longer and more frequently. Really pleased with the results. Anyway enough waffle - I hope to get part two up this week which is the more exciting part because it has Goos in it and not just DIY. abravegooworld.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/moving-day-part-one.html

Do tell how the modifications came about? Did some stuff just crop up that would work better after they got their paws on it? And tell us more about the ladder and playtime and relationship improvements? I'm a firm believer that they relax loads more if they can come in and out of the cage as they like, I'm sure the ladder is perfect for this.

I do have three more entries lined up. The Goos in the new home. The Modifications Playtime - this one is fun. I hope with a few more goes to have a video of the girls as they now have the space and are learning to use the lazy Susan wheel I made from this forum's instructions! The mods came about interestingly because I built the box on the floor, but then stood it on the cupboard which raised it up by 40cm. When viewing it from this perspective it changed the whole way it looked to us - for example the top access hatch sat 4cm higher than the shelf, by the time we sat on the sofa, we couldn't see the girls running in the wheel and my partner couldn't reach them. So basically I dropped the whole front - extended the hatch frame and mesh, lowered the ENTIRE(!) sliding door frame which meant cutting the digging pit panel. As a result the new dimensions also meant I had enough left over perspex to replace the MDF front with clear substrate so now we can actually see the whole of the box, all the time and it lets much more light in. It's really good! The other little bits are just watching them in the cage - some were for protection where they irritatingly decided to ignore the lovely sticks and bits to chew and went for the structure and others were for practical reasons like raising the big sandbath up so they didn't kick loads of Finacard/Wood Shavings into it! Play time is excellent, especially sitting in the pen with with and Serrano had started to fear me (after screwing a piece of mesh over her favourite chewing spot on the frame) but now she runs over me and climbs up me when I sit in there with them.

Your blog is brilliant. I would love to start something like that myself one day Your a brilliant inspiration. Thank you very much. Much like Smithomatics blog I wanted to help people with their Goos - we are very grateful for the help we have received from people on this forum and Degus International that we in turn wanted to share our experiences. And (usually) I have too much time on my hands....

A tumblr could be a really interesting way of going about it so start off with! The problem with the blog is that I some times hesitate to post an entry just because we've caught one of our girls doing something cute whereas with tumblr the picture is an expression in itself. I have a friend who wrote a blog for years (on his own self indulgence to be fair) and now he uses tumblr instead and he loves it. Come to think of it I'm talking myself in to one at this rate. Hope you get your Degus soon, they really are amazing little things!

I'm getting my goos after the 24th, before the 27th of this month so not long now. I just wish the cage would arrive! I think I will do a tumblr, I know a lot of people who use them and they can become really interesting.

Haha. Maybe you are an ancient dinosaur? Tumblr's pretty good, it's like social networking but for more creative people I'd say!

Haha no worries - started organising the photos but got hijacked by my better half and wedding business so it's in the works! tumblr is like a blog but instead of writing it is like an expression through pictures - the creative part is making it less random I guess, not really got the hang of it myself to be honest. It's like a scrapbook in some ways that you can share with followers. Bit wacky...
