Hi All, Confession: I am one of those irritating people who are always taking pictures with their camera phone... however it has meant that I have a fairly comprehensive record of things that I hope to look back on in later years, such as the rebuilding of my house etc. One thing that has been captured is our journey with our (first) Degus and like many ill informed people we have made mistakes along the way and are still learning as we go. As such I thought that it would be cool to put our experiences into a blog documenting our experiences. Anyway I am happy with what's on there so far. I still have a few things to add and tweak and I will be putting up my blow-by-blow account of building our DIY home when that gets fully underway. I don't profess to be an expert and that's not the point of the blog - in fact I am on here because I was at my wits end last year and thanks to advice and help from board members here I, we, the Degus are much happier. Enjoy! abravegooworld.blogspot.com

Brilliant, I really enjoyed that. I think my favourite bit is that Pimento was 'the other one' When our goos were small and unidentifiable, we had 'this one', 'that one', and 'where's number 3'? ;D Also love the gooey pun in your blog title ;D

Due to a massive amount of life getting in the way I have not had as much chance to spend time posting here, although I have tried to keep tabs on what is going on with everyone's Goos. I have also been somewhat remiss on adding to my blog and this is in part to having to turn my DIY skills to looking after a new addition to the family in the incredibly charming Merlin. But whilst I actually do some work on the blog I'll offer a teasing glimpse of how another little something something is going...

Hahaha - he is my fiances new pride and joy. Definitely a lion head and definitely the cutest thing you have seen we got him at ten weeks old and have had him for a fortnight. He gets spoilt rotten by the other half as he is a cat substitute due to my allergies so comes out to play all the time and chills out on the sofa watching TV with us. As for the cage it still has a long way to go before I can complete my masterpiece ( ) - I have spent far too long dreaming of how to make this vision come true. I'll be on with the blog this week and hopefully will have a couple of articles up on it before the weekend including larger detailed pictures of how the box is looking so far.

I completely agree with Moletteuk on all things . . . lionhead bun TOTAL heart stealer . . . and the cage is looking absolutely stunning so far. I'm looking at the beautiful edges and moaning, such lovely work and the degus will CHEW IT! LOL! I am sure you expect that, however, so I'll keep my moaning to a low mumble. Can't wait to see and hear more!

Haha! Thanks DC. He is completely aware of how cute he is too! I know the edges are chewable - I have planned it that way in order to distract them from the MDF. I am paranoid and precious that they'll figure a way to chew on a flat plain and try to escape (which they probably will) so my idea was to provide them with other tasty looking bits of wood instead. All the shelves are designed to be removable (without making new screw holes in the box) so I can 'service' the cage. Likewise all the pine edges can be removed without removing and replacing screws in the MDF. I am well aware that once the novelty of the new home has worn off (something long like 24 hours maybe?) they'll look for new and creative ways to cause chaos and destruction.

And the second one brings me up to date. abravegooworld.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/big-build-part-two.htmlI am hoping to get a chance to do some more this Sunday but my next big task is to ensure we secure our large metal wheel so the constant seismic shock of them running in the wheel doesn't weaken and damage the structure, but I have a cunning plan.

Brilliant documentation, Mhb!! Can't wait to see what your cunning plan for securing the wheel is. LOL!

Loved the cage building blog entries, very informative AND entertaining. I thought everyone had a box with odd ends of degu safe wood in, no?? Next you'll be telling me other people don't have a box with spare bits of steel and aluminium trim for emergency degu-proofing!?

It's finally finished!!! Well I have completed the work on every element I just ran out of time to assemble and move the girls! Next Saturday we're going to get the chores out of the way and then spend the rest of the day assembling and moving their toys over and then finally them so we can sit down Saturday evening, put on a film an d watch the Goos. Extremely pleased.
