Since friday evening we have two youg female goos and we all ready adore them ;D . Who needs tv when you can watch them run around, play and explore. The person we got them from has obviously made them used to being picked up. Yesterday I was all ready able to pick them up without much trouble. And today they are all ready used to use walking by their cage, it doens't scare them anymore and make them hide. But it's amazing who quick you can see differences in their personality. Mina is the climber, she climbs on the bars and gets very high. And she's also the one you see eating the most lol. Lyna is the one who always tries out then new things first. I also suspect Lyna will be the dominant one, I have seen her on top of Minu several times, and not the otherway around. Little LynaLittle MinuMinu eating while Lyna takes a sandbath

Amazing how fast you can love those little things. I'm at work now, wanting to be home to see them lol. Yesterday we tried to give them a small piece of carrot. They sniffed at it but didn't even bother to take it. So I placed it into their food bowl since I remembered reading somewhere you just have to give them time and keep trying. This morning the two carrot pieces were gone and so far I haven't found them. Even if they buried it somewhere, I'm happy they at least showed interest and carried it around. This morning the two darlings crawled up my arm, I couldn't believe it and had to check it to make sure. Once back in the cage I offered my hands again after a few minutes and again they got on without any hesitation and started walking further onto my arm . Since it's going so good, I'm planning on letting them have some run free time this weekend. They can run around in the bathroom, enough space, no cables there and no places where I can't get to them. And easy to clean up after them lol

That is great progress!! When you take them into the bathroom to run around, make sure that you get down on the floor with them. If you have some oats, or some sunflower seeds on hand, you can offer them every time they climb up on you, which will encourage them to keep coming back. You'll have them climbing all over you before many "bathroom" sessions have taken place. ;D

Congratulations on your gorgeous pair. A lot of people are pleasantly surprised upon taking on degus, as they buy them expecting a pet much like a rat or a hamster and discover they have a bubbly little furry person in a cage! This was certainly the case when we got our first two. I agree with deguconvert, definitely get down on the floor with them. We have found often because we're so big (I think) they don't quite associate the face they see peering in at them with the hands that pick them up and have found that sitting or crawling on the floor when they are out encourages them to see you more like part of their own little pack. It sounds like you're already starting to see their own little personalities shining through, which is wonderful. Ours love to talk to us and chitter chatter back when we try to mimic their noises. So pleased to welcome you to degu keeping. I hope you find it as joyful and rewarding as it can be. Best of luck!!
