(I replied to some of this in the other thread.) I would start with JRF grainless guinea, Versele Laga Crispy and maybe Science Selective. Forage such as herbs, wild and hedgerow type plants, tree leaves, flowers, grasses etc should be unlimited, also hay. A selection of oil seeds, including some high calcium oil seeds should also be added. You will need to experiment based on what you can get hold of and what your degus end up liking.

Looks quite good, I'll try and get it added to the commercial food chart. How much of it are they eating, are they eating the grass and natural parts?

Got this for my goobies, they seem to really like it! Cookie loved the hibiscus. The P@H in Cardiff Bay seem to have extended their degu food options; there's about three or four brands to choose from now. Anyone else tried it? I was just about to ask about this! picked up a bag on sunday and so far my goos love it.

Not sure if this fits here, so please move it if necessary.
Nipped to a garden centre today and spotted a pet store so I decided to have a look around. There was a bag (only one left) of their own degu food mix, sorry I didn't get the name of it, but it was in a clear bag and it looked good.
However, on closer inspection, I always read the ingredients just to be sure, one of the listed items was molasses. I took it to the counter and had a word with the lady there and pointed out the problem degus have with sugars and she said they had been told that as long as it's less than 5% sugar, its safe for them.
I waited while she went online and checked what I'd told her and then promptly posted an email to the company asking for it to be withdrawn.
Just goes to show that even if it says degu food, it might not be all that suitable, so please, please check the ingredients.
