It's actually quite small. It would be a palace for hamsters and mice, but degus would find it crowded, and I think you would find them trying to chew out before long. It could be just me, or just the way the colors look on my monitor, but the wood used in that cage looks actually quite soft. In appearance it made me think of Balsa wood. It likely isn't . . . just looks similar. Wood cages are great . . . if made with the massive chewing habbits of degus in mind. I don't think that one would last very long. The exposed edges are not lined with metal to prevent chewing.

Which exposed edges? and I will ask the seller about the make of wood. Also which cage would you suggest, as I would ideally like a wooden one but am not in the position to make one.

I would recommend really considering making a cage. It really is easy, you don't have to have ANY DIY skills (I didn't and my cage has lasted so well I am now planning an even bigger and better cage)
It also saves a lot of money, to buy a cage the same size of mine (150cm tall, 90cm wide & 60cm deep) would cost me at least £200, but to build it myself cost less than £100.

Unfortunately as I said in my last post making one is not an option, is there anywhere that sells wooden cages for Degus as most of the cages I have seen are metal and I would much prefer a wooden one. Also do members on here sell their wooden cages if like you they decide to build a bigger and better cage? Sorry for all the questions and thank you for all the help

I'm not aware of anywhere that sells suitable wooden cages, especially as many commonly used woods are toxic to degus. I think if you are looking to buy a cage you are probably going to find it easier to get a metal one, but good luck anyway

That's a shame about nowhere selling wooden cages, and which metal cgae would you suggest as I loathe the p@H one and find many I have looked at have too much metal within the cage.

I would say try and get one that is a big as possible within your budget as degus can't have too much space

My budget would be up to £80. Any idea which cage, with not too much metal would be best for that budget?

deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=market&action=display&thread=7995Kovu07, have a look at this link, above, maybe this could fill all your desires in one fell swoop!! The cage is great, already set up, and there are degus included, for an AMAZING price! Perhaps if you can help pay for petrol, or make some kind of arrangements with the OP you can take his?? Have a look, see what you think, and then PM him. Maybe even email him if he has that listed. You two could be a perfect solution for each other.

Oh that is a shame I am looking to get my Degus in September as I have alot going on this summer which wouldn't be fair on them. What makes it worse is i'm only an hour from Nottigham and I used to live there, so I would have been a perfect new home for the little guys and their AMAZING cage.

That is a lovely cage but i'm paranoid when it comes to pets, and would really worry about their feet on the wire mesh at the top.

thats why I put down the cardboard to protect their feet, also the mesh is extremely tight so theres no danger of their feet falling through

Not so much their feet falling through, but the risk of bumblefoot which i've heard is very painful for Degus. The cardboard looks like a good idea but don't they chew it? I think i'd want something more durable that is fixed in place.

I think i'd want something more durable that is fixed in place. they do chew it a little but I replace the cardboard weekly when I clean out the cage, I've asked for advice and I've been told that they only get bumblefoot from constant foot exposure to mesh and they never seem to run on it
