I am so excited!!! I'm converting a old TV cabinet to a cage for the girls. Their cage now is nice but with the topper, poo flies out everywhere! haha! And they pee on the wooden shelves! I want to make it so I can put litter on their shelves.
Eeek! I will be sure to post pictures. Scratch that! It's done!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D Did it today. And what a beautiful day it was! Gorgeous out! Warm and sunny! A little wind but it kept you cool! I can't take all the credit for this, my dad helped a bunch! All closed up. No degus in it yet! Doors open! Theeeen.... It opens all up for easy cleaning! This is what it looked like before (plus it had two drawers on the bottom but I didn't have them in here). That shelf there, we moved down so they had more room. So we took the top drawer completely out but left the bottom for storage. Then we put a board up to keep bedding and degus in! It looked kinda weird at this point because, well, the wood didn't match! See: Then I thought, omg, I can use the front of the drawer we took out! Duh! I, personally, think my dad and I did an amazing job. All the shelves come out so I can clean them. They are covered with vinyl tiles too for easy easily wiping clean. My dad also cut a hole in the top to put a light. Put some wiremesh over the hole and perfect! It's a light you'd put on a fish tank. Works Great! The whole set up cost be about $20!! The cabnit thing I got for free. My mom had it and did not need it anymore. Some stuff we had laying around. The rest we went and bought today. I am soo happy!

Thanks everyone! I put them in and the little stinkers decided their wheel was more fun then exploring. LOL! They are literally addicted to their wheel! I'll take some tonight.

Looks absolutely fab, and you have some nice branches in there There's a chance you may find you need to cover the little shelf support holes up the sides, my goos go crazy for any little thing like that anyway.

Looks very impressive. The more pictures I see the more I think how easy it'll be to build my own cage for the girls.

Yeah I thought that. Any ideas on what to use to cover? Actually I got an idea! I can buy the wooden pegs that go in the holes and then cut them off.

I'd say the easiest way to cover the little holes is with a strip of metal. You can buy aluminium strip pretty cheaply in the UK from DIY shops, but I don't know about where you are. Wooden dowel pegs could work but I guess would be tricky to get them the right length so they finish flush, although I don't suppose it matters if they chomp the dowels a bit.
