EDIT Here is the video.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_Mnmq0XmZY
It really is. And its home made.... by me. I just wanted to show off. It has been made over 3 days and just needs a few finishing touches.
I decided to turn the alcove in my room into a floor to ceiling cage giving them plenty of height to climb. The first day was spent building the support structure and cutting the floors for each level
The next day i built the doors, added an extra beam for where the doors would be and fitted cupboard doors to the bottom to hold the wheel, dust, food, hay etc and wired the back wall to give them more wire to climb and to stop them eating the wallpaper and plaster.
The third day was spent wiring the cage, building shelves and ledges for the degus and putting in there new toys. fitting the doors. You may notice in this picture that the middle door appears to not be painted. It is, i just wired the wrong side so I need to paint the outside of the door. I cit some large branches off my apple trees or them to climb to each level. I'm going to add some more soon.
The fourth day (today) has been spent putting my bedroom back together. There is still a few finishing touches to do. Over the next week, ill let the degus out of there cage while I attach trimming to the outside of the cage, to cover up where the wire has been stapled to the beams.
But there you have it. My cage which measures 6ft tall and 3 and a halt feet wide. It cost me about £120 in material.
Just £30 more than the small p@h cage. My degus are so happy in there new home I would have paid more in material.
You really do need a rather large cage for degus and I cant justify paying the price for the really large cages when you can make them to suit the room theyre kept in. My original cage (which I also built was this...
Still larger than the p@h cage. But the massive cage is a my mansion.
I am going to make a video when its 100% complete and post it on youtube. I'll share the link when its done.
