So as my suspisions came true, Joe and Olly hate the hay I got them, it's like 15KG... can i use it as a bedding type thing instead of shavings? Seen as they don't eat it? I need an answer ASAP as I'm about to clean them out

How long has it been since they've refused to eat it, and what type of hay did they have before?

I left it a couple of days, they just trod on it... about the second day I put some of their old hay in and they ate it all straight away. Not sure... Tim hay maybe?

Oh dear it does sound like they prefer their old hay, if you left it for a few days i'm not sure what else to suggest, as it's clear that they do want to eat hay, just not that one.

You can use it as bedding. As it wont do them any harm

My boys aren't keen on Tim hay either. They just prefer boring normal hay! But they do like another hay that has some herbs mixed in with it but it's very expensive and it's a treat only plus the bags are quite small! I just give them boring Meadow Hay. The Tim Hay I have bought before had really really short strands and my boys hated it! They couldn't bundle into it and dig about or eat it like spaghetti. So after I used that hay up (as bedding and substrate) I've just stuck to boring hay. You could use it as their bedding, and I don't see why you can't use it as substrate.

It can be used as a substrate, it just gets very messy from what I remember when using it with other animals.

Yeah, it's suitable substrate but not very good at absorbing odours, I've got a big bag of cheap hay from P@H that they refuse to eat, I use it in their nest box.

Oh no, what a shame! It's fine to use as substrate or bedding, it's worth a try! I've been using Bob Martin hay from Asda, it's about £2 a kilo, or there's a massive bag for about £4 and my 3 seem to like it as much as anything else I've tried (including the expensive herb one).

Are you sure they are not eating it??? I load my nest box and cage up with hay and lots of gets used as bedding and generally kicked around, therefore no idea if it's being eaten. The only way I know for sure they eat it, is that my 'hanging hay feeder' gets emptied on a very regular basis and they love the challenge of pulling it out blade by blade!! Mine will eat any type of hay that is offered this way.
