Hi Inge Great to see another Goo owner to add to our merry band it seems Degu's are slowly expanding country wise and it is wonderful we can all communciate on the forum and swap ideas - i think your cage is very cool we have 7 albeit 5 in one cage and two in another - which has meant a wall being dedicated to a large home made wooden cage for the 5 monsters you will certainly have your hands full with boys. Welcome and happy gooing

Hello Inge, welcome to the forum. Your lady cat is really nice and lovely!!
I have two cats, too, and there is really no problem in keeping degus in normal cages and having cats!! I have four groups of degus and our cats either enjoy watching degu-TV or don't pay any attention at all. And we have normal wooden cages, some with mesh doors and one with plexiglass. The only thing we took into consideration was to avoid a cage beginning on ground level. Our cages (or at least the level used by the degus) either start at about 40 cm height or the cage is set upon a sideboard.
Different to other members in this board I don't like glassy cages. It is hard to have a good ventilation and I feel pity for the goos as they only have few possibilities to hide.
I have been keeping degus for about 2,5 years now and I very much appreciate their liveliness. And I strongly believe that for being really happy and show all their behavioural aspects they need a bigger cage with different things to play, hide, run etc.

I agree with you, Maravilla . . . the glass doesn't afford much in the way of hiding spaces . . . but I do love the way it shines. That is because I love GLASS period (AND GELATIN!), and I like to see things so clearly. I LOVE massive fish tanks . . . could spend whole days just watching fish in giant aquariums . . . sigh! I did wonder if the ventilation would be sufficient, but since Inge has mentioned wanting to enlage the cage, I anticipate that this will be answered in part with the changes to be made.
