hi Ive been reading and looking up info on degus for over a year now and i finally adopted 2 boys i was told they was about a year old the cage i have for them is 5ft Ive had them for bout 3 month now and still not got them to let me hold them but they are both friendly enough but my problem is my hubby went to work and came home with 2 baby boys said they looked lonely in pets at home he was told they are both male Ive split the cage into 2 parts so they can smell eashother and chat , last week or so Ive been letting them into each others cages they don't seem to fight or show any aggression until the older 1s try to mount the new 1s anyway my question is , is it normal for males to mount each other ( my hubby says they are trying show each other who's the boss ) or could it be possible for the new 1s to be female Ive looked at them all best i can they all seem to look the same to me thanks for any advice i get

Your hubby is right it is a dominance thing. But just so you are 100% sure I would check they are male.

Welcome to the forum as well. You will soon notice I give the short reply and Smux comes in as my sort of wingman with the more indepth reply As Smux said if you are unsure how to sex a Degu, we will be happy to help. Just give us warning, so we can stop our goo's from seeing their version of porn on our screens

thanks so much guys i checked a video and they are all boys so i won't be having any unexpected babies , I've got them all in 1 cage now they all seem to be getting on. Ive got a question about feeding as well if you've got a min spare Ive read loads about giving then 1 teaspoon of degu food per degu once a day i was wondering if that is really enough i make sure they have fresh hay everyday and water i just don't want them to be under fed thanks again

Yes that is enough as a rough guide. You have to remember they only have small stomachs plus they top up their intake from degu food with hay, plus the odd treat.

I'd say it's more like a desert spoon of hard food each a day, or some people use a shot glass to measure it, or degutopia recommends 10g each a day if you have scales handy.
