I've got 3 degus and between them they must produce about 100 poos a day. I'm up to my neck in poos! Is there anyway a degu can be encouraged to poo in one place cos at they moment they like to poo everywhere apart from in their litter! and when they use the the saucer wheel the poo flies everywhere! my carpet is littered with poo! I went out today with my mum and when I went to get out my wallet a poo fell out! Someone help me!

LOL! There's no help for you! The only thing I can suggest is lining their cage with perpex Failing that.... if you can't beat them.... join them! Do a poo and throw it in thier cage! See how the the little dirt bags like that! (I have NEVER done that by the way!!!! LOL.) ....Ok, perhaps I have.... or haven't.... you will never know!

I have two degus and they don't poo that much... maybe you're feeding them something wrong or too much? Not sure... put something around the cage as said above.

I'm really sorry to laugh at your misfortune but I am crying with laughter!! I have the same trouble, there really isn't much to be done as the others said. Sometimes I've accidently trailed a poop into the living room, so embarassing when the neighbour calls round! The little monkeys just do it for kicks I'm sure.

I think our boys have competitions to see who can fling it the furthest from the cage!

The dustbath suggestion is good one come to think of it. I never even thought about that. Mine tend to go to the toilet in it quite a lot when I leave it in there. Thankfully, I've found mine don't bathe in it once it's fairly soiled (I do forget to take it out sometimes.) So it might be an idea

Hehe, this did make me laugh! Mine are little pooing machines! Unfortunately you can't train them to poo in a certain place as degus can't regulate where and when they produce droppings. However you can train where they urinate, apparently. Although it requires lots of patience, lots and lots of patience.

Yeah, we have 2 boys, they poo everywhere. We put them in balls to run around the kitchen in and within 30 minutes it is literally everywhere. I've lined my cage with cardboard so any poo that they shoot out drops to the bottom. Apart from in gaps, in which they ate the cardboard...

Ha,ha,ha...I'm soooo glad it's not just me!!! my goos poo loads n I'm sweeping round their cage about 8/9 times during the day. I've got 5 kids with the youngest 2 next week and he thinks the poo is some sort of choccie treat out especially for him!!!! Im waiting for 2 new cages so when they come I'm going to try to fix some Perspex a couple of inches high around the bottom just in the hope it holds some in. I'm so sure they have poo kicking competitions every time I leave the room and that lovely chatter noise they make when I come back in is definitely them laughing at me fetching the dustpan and brush AGAIN. xx lol xx

I have just laughed so much reading this thread!
I have a 3 tier cage and have lined each tier with card so they dont hurt their feet.
I have to hoover the poo out every day! Mine also have poo flicking competitions! I suppose it doesn't help when they have poo on the floor and go and dive round the cage.
I leave the dust bath in the cage during the day and clean it out and give fresh sand in an evening so thay can bath and then poop away ha ha.
And all the babies are pooing in the dust bath.
Does anyone have any issues with any degus weeing out of the side of the cage? I come home from work to find white wee stains all over the table I am keeping them on?

As a matter of FACT!!! LOL! A year back, we had our degus in a wire cage on a table, right up next to a wall. Now . . . this cage went right up to the ceiling, but for 5 cm, and moving it anywhere was a major pain, so it never got moved. Then I built the wooden cage we have now. That necessitated the break down and removal of the wire cage, (once the wooden cage was to the stage that I could use the wire for doors and then put the boys straight in) which revealed a VERY nasty site. What with all the toys and things in the cage, it hadn't been apparent that the boys had taken to URINARY ART all over the wall. It was peppered with long black hairs that had evidently come from their tails while running on their wheels, bathing dust, and various other 'sundries.' It took a good deal of scrubbing to restore that wall to pristine condition, and with many a muttered breath I wished I had followed through on my thought to paint those walls in semi-gloss paint, NOT EGG SHELL! Thankfully now, they have nothing but WOOD behind them and there is no longer ART to deal with when I move their cage. I don't quite know HOW they manage to direct that little cone thing of theirs so well . . . but they sure do. They are masters of placement and distance!
