I know this seems weird, but would it help the dominance situation if I had more than two females? THe only reason I stuck with two was because I thought if you had two females and one male or two males and one female, they would fight...

Degus are group animals and live in huge groups in the wild, so any more degus would be welcome as they love to be sociable, however I would see if these two will work it out before introducing any more. I hope that helps

Thanks! I think I will wait until tomorrow before trying to put them back together, just because Stimpy is so agitated. I'll keep you guys posted!

I've been having trouble with my computer! Using my hubby's now, much better. One thing that you may be encountering is the loss of familian odors from their cage. Degus use odors to reinforce their heirarchy within the community, and if for any reason those odors go missing, they seem to lose all understanding of where they stand in relation to each other. This loss of understanding immediately (or very shortly) results in massive and aggressive fighting. The quickest means to helping solve this trouble is to go get a couple of handfuls of dirty substrate from what you just cleaned out, and then sprinkle it over the clean subtrate in your cages. This will supply them with the information they lost, and it will help to rebalance the power in their relationships once again. Give this a try and carefully put them back in and watch to see if it helps. They could show irritation for a few minutes, but I would estimate that over about a 30 minute span you should see them relax and "discover" each other again . . . likely having a good grooming session to follow.
If it were a case of seeing Stimpy try to outst Ren from dominant position, then you would be seeing Stimpy go after Ren, trying to hump her and so forth.
YES!! Stimpy is definitely a girl. Thankfully you are blessed with two girls!

Deguconvert thank you so much! I will definitely try this as soon as I get home. I did switch their cages before I left for work, putting Ren in Stimpy's cage and Stimpy in Ren's cage.. hoping this would help them in some way. They also both bathed in the same sand. Wish me luck

It's a website. Also have you tried rescue centres? You might be able to adopt a single goo to introduce to the others.

Back when I thought Stimpy was a boy, I actually had several local pet stores begging me for any babies. Apparently they're hard to come by here
