Hi everyone Long story so will try make it as short as possible!!! Purchased 3 male degu's, one had baby's. Simon/Alvin started barking constantly for around 30-50 minutes which drove us insane and then about half an hour later we realised there were the 6 baby goo's. Do you think Simon/Alvin have mated with dot and could she possibly be pregnant again?? Please help - my Mom is panicking because she doesn't want her having anymore, my Dad is not bothered and would be rather chuffed and I'm in the middle and slightly confused as to what's going on!!!! Cheers AJ

Yes If you definately now have 1 female and 2 males, the female could be mated straight away, that is why you would have to remove the males for at least 48 hours!
You could seperate them now, make usre you only remove the males, might be worth checking agian to make sure you have the sex right, because you have bought at least 1 female and 2 males by the sound of it :-)
Sperate them now for a few days, and hope for the best!!

Males & female were seperated as soon as we found out there were babies in the cage!!!! What I need to know is - is there a good chance that she may be pregnant so we can get prepared this time round??

There is certainly that possibility. To be honest, the only way to ensure that it doesn't happen again is to do one of two things. Permenantly remove the males from her, or having them neutered. Neutering should not occur before they are a year in age. I guess there is a third, and that would be re-homing them, either the males or the females. If you have the males in with her now, there is still the chance that she may be impregnated. The high quality of food and lack of predators makes for higher frequency of litters produced, so she can be receptive at any time. Of course, the males are johnny on the spot, too!
If you should notice in about 6 weeks time that she is looking exceedingly "fluffy" again, get your males into a separate cage right away. If you are keeping any female pups from this current litter, they will help her with any pups that come along, so the help of the "Dads" will not be missed. This is the only way to prevent a third conception.
