hi, i've had my degus for 3 months, 2 males, just over a year old. im slightly concerned about their tails. scrats tail is kind of crusty at the end and bald at the point. it doesnt look good. i didnt notice this when we first got them so it may have been something he had already or has more recently developed. Nutz tail on the other hand seems a little bald on the bottom, possibly like its rubbing on the floor? has anyone experienced anything similar or got any suggestions as to how to cure this? i've looked on other forums and seen something somewhere about rubbing olive oil on the tail, but im still developping a bond with them so i dont think they would let me put it on them yet
thanks

The oil will help . . . basically what you are seeing is dry skin that they haven't bothered to groom away. I have a boy this is in the opposite condition. He has groomed his tail almost completely naked. All he has now is a strip of hair on the end, underside of his tail. . . it's almost like seeing a man with only half a mustache!
