So, little Garak is going to the vet next wednesday to see if they can do something with his teeth - they've grown too long, and the ones one the bottom are seperating a bit.
I'm just worried about the anaestetic/narcosis he's probably gonna have to do, because he's not too tame. The vet said he could die from it...
Anyone else had their degu put under for a procedure?

one of my girls, had to have her teeth trimmed, and they did it whilst she was awake. She had never bitten anyone before, but, i;d only had her a week, and she'd lived in a shed before coming to me, with no human contact, and she was absolutely fine, hope your little boy is too xxxx

My Goo was put in the 'gas' chamber ( like a big sandwich box with a hole each end for the pipes) he had to be put to sleep to examine his suspected broken leg. He was fine.

I'm two for two so far with the gas chamber procedure described above. (Two alive that is!)

Thanks for your replies, a bit reassuring for us As I said, he's not used to being handled very much, so I do think he will need anaestetic... nickymills and smux, did yours also go to the gas chamber? Can we try practise handling him for this week, or would it just stress him more?

Update!
We've been to the vet, and they did his teeth without anaestetics! He would have needed it if the "behind" teeth were bad, but they seem ok at the moment as long as he keeps eating with them.
Now he and Sirius are resting after some heavy grooming, soo cute!

My Steve had to be put under anaesthetic when he had his leg injury so they could remove the hammock fabric he had twisted solidly into his leg. He was completely fine afterwards and recovered very well. As far as I am aware he was knocked out with an injection and not gas.
