Or so I thought..... yes, turns out they're females (I'm fairly sure as they seem to have 'va-goo-goos', lol). They were bought from pets at home and sold as males to their previous owners! Grrrr! atleast they were the same sex.) I have also adopted a single male (I know, I'm mad!) and it is my intention to introduce the single male to my younger boys, but when I saw the post on here for 'home needed for two male degus' in the West Midlands, I thought if it doesn't work out introducing the single male to my boys, I could try an intro with those boys instead and rehome them as a trio. I was trying to keep my options open whilst doing my bit for the rescue side of things (I used to recue cats and I can't help myself with most animals! lol). They're 18 months old.
Anyway, here's a video of one of them. I'd just like confirmation really that they are definately girls (unless I've got it completely wrong, having never seen girl parts other than on videos before.)

You'll notice there's a little bit of pee on the camera lens. That's because she peed in my face when I was sexing her! lol. It wasn't nice, but it was so funny! It was like what you'd imagine when changing a babies nappy.... she just peed right in my face! lol. The poor girl was terrified so I forgive her
One of them is VERY overweight (the other one is overweight too, but not to the same extent.) I haven't been able to weigh her yet, but you can tell just by looking at her that she's obese! (she's the one on the right in the picture.) She can hardly jump the poor thing and she does next to nothing. They're on a strict diet now. She's a right madam with a huge attitude problem which I'm hoping will change once she's lost some weight in 'fat camp'. I plan to get some strips to test for diabeties soon too. I've sorted out a make-shift cage for them so they have a little more space (they came with a thickets cage, I believe. I've just attached another on top). It's still too small for their size and needs, but it's more than what they had and it should encourage them to move around a lot more.
The other girl has bald patches due her sister over-grooming her, which again, I'm hoping will change when they have more to do.
I'm obviously going to struggle to keep them given that they're female. My boys are acting very strange at the moment with them in the house, lol. I haven't named them as once I do, I know it's game over and I'll want to keep them.... which I really can't. I just want to get them healthy and ready for a new home.... or find someone else I'd trust to stick to everything they need. Such as their new diet, lots of exercise and time out of the cage.
Any advice about these ladies would be hugely appreciated! If I've missed anything that will add their quality of life or health.... please feel free to point me in the right direction.
