Well i just got home and one of my babies appears to have shed his tail somehow. the tip of his tail was in the cage and the bone is exposed. Unfortunatly when i opened the cage to have a look he leaped out and legged it under my bed! He has come out but wont be caught, it doesnt appear to be bleeding at all. What do i do?? I feel so bad ive let this happen to him Can he go back in the cage with the others or is it best to keep him alone for a bit? They have been playing a lot recently so i presume theyve just had an accident playing or something Poor baby.

This happened to Joe, although it was my fault and he bled like crazy! still has blood stains on one shelf which I have repeatedly tried to clean. He or his cagemate will chew the exposed bone but don't worry it won't hurt and if it does he'll run away or stop biting it. The tail will be like normal except shorter and have a small white dot at the end of it where the exposed bone is still there (which can't be avoided) it may take a few weeks, Joe was fine after a few hours, like normal, he did bleed several times but didn't bleed at all the day after. Don't worry he won't be in too much pain and I couldn't believe what I did at first, I didn't want to believe one of MY degus didn't have a full tail! I actually wanted to keep the tail end ( ) but my mum wouldn't let me. Put him back in with his cage mate. Athough it seems back one good thing comes out of it, you can now tell them apart. Good luck!
