I have two Female Degu's and have noticed one keeps holding her paw up. I found out before I bought them they were in p@h for a few months in a small metal cage and I think she has bumblefoot as her paw has bumpy pink bits on it. Her other paw's are fine I have an all metal cage but since getting it put down flooring so they weren't on a metal bar flooring as read it can cause bumblefoot. I am just wondering if my thinking is right and she has this problem and what do I do for her to get rid of it Please advise me Thanks everyone Cazara

Make sure all areas of exposed mesh flooring is covered, put the foot in saline solution (salt and tepid water), may struggle as it will sting but it's needed to stop infection. Also maybe rub sunflower oil on it (degutopia)
Good luck, and I thought it had to be a long period of time standing on mesh which caused bumblefoot, you sure it's bumblefoot? Can you show a picture (I've never seen bumblefoot so if the degu does obviously have bumblefoot, i'm sorry :X)

I'm not sure if this is a normal paw or not it's not cut or anything but she does keep holding it up sometimes. Today she has been using it. All mesh is covered as I do hate mesh for any animal to stand on all the time I'd hate to stand on it. lol Thanks for the help Cazara

It is possible that she just enjoys that position. Our boys will lift their feet (or one of the front feet) and just sit like that for a little bit. I have always figured it was just them being "thoughtful." LOL!
Google bumblefoot and you will see how dramatically different a foot suffering from bumblefoot looks. It is really nasty, and look intensely painful. A degu that has bumblefoot needs to be seen by the vet and will then have pain relief and antibiotics prescribed.

I tried to find a picture when I first seen her doing it last night as right away though vet if it is but couldnt find anything on it. Yes she likes being held like that and her tummy rubbed other than that she runs all over the place to escape only way I get to check her over she still won't come to my hand and let me lift her out the cage. Putting my slipper in is working fab as she hides in it and I can then lift her out in the slipper. Thank you so much for easing my mind as am new to these animals and had heard bumblefoot mentioned but have never seen it and with her holding her paw up and not using it I thought she may have it I will be checking it daily just encase she does have anything wrong with her fingers crossed it just her resting her paw and nothing else I still havent seen a pic but did get info on it
Bumble Foot (Pododermatitis) Description: Bumble foot is an extremely painful problem where by the Degu experiences red swelling and sores to the bottom of the feet. Causes: Constant walking on wired surfaces Symptoms: Difficulty walking, cries of pain, swollen feet, sores, cut sores on the feet. Treatment: Symptoms may fade with time, Vet visit is essential. Prevention: Provide plenty of ledges and solid bases for your Degus to stand on to get off the wire from day 1.
I still will keep looking for a picture to know for future Cazara
