It's from a TV show here. Since we are such an international forum, we will have to make sure that the smileys are universally understandable. For example, it's Daumen drücken in Germany and fingers crossed in the UK.
Because all these smileys will appear on the smileys bar when people write their posts, I assume the number has to be somewhat more limited.

Good point, there are lots of animated emoticons in there Amie. But I doubt some of them would ever see use. As you mentioned, it would be good to have a "welcome" or "hello" emoticon. One with "thumbs up" would also be good. Sometimes you want to convey a message through the smilies, but realise that none are suitable in our current choices.

Thanks Fred and Jordan, you are expressing what I was thinking. There is no need to have all smileys here... there are thousands available in this big WWW and you could spend weeks in including all of them in the forum. In an international board, all smileys have to be understood by everybody in the same way. I don't want to use one smiley in a certain situation and then get an annoyed answer just because the other persons understood the smiley I used the wrong way. These little emoticons should improve communication and not complicate it.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile to have a closer look at the about 70% of smileys frequently used on DeguForum.de. I don't feel that additional ones are required in most communications on a degu board. If someone wants more, they can easily help themselves from xxx or similar sites.
For each of the frequently used DeguForum.de smileys one can then consider 1) whether it is universally understandable 2) whether there are nicer smileys expressing the same sentiment

I didn't realise that the smilieys were simply for non-English users? I think there should be a selection of smileys for English people too. So, I am right in thinking that you want the exact same selection as those on the German degu forum?
So, do you want me to delete them all and start again? Or delete the ones you don't want on here?
Not meaning to sound annoyed at all, just spent a lot of time going through them and choosing them last night.... and still hadn't finished adding them all yet.
Edit: I've read this back and realied it sounds very sharp. My apologies, that's just how I'm feeling today (for other reasons). Please let me know which smileys you want.

I have deleted all of the smileys and will start again. Please look through the smileys, choose which ones you want and I'll add those ones instead

I think we didn't want to criticise your work, which was a really good and hard one, I believe. It is not the question of having smileys for English and non-English people. It is just important that really everybody understands a certain smiley to avoid any misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

Don't worry! I'm having a bad day! If I'm being overly sensetive, that's why! Just, everyone have a chat between yourselves and decide what you want and I'll put those up.

Quite a few of these smilies have now stopped working, possibly due to slight updates by proboads. Anyone have any ideas on how to restore them?

There is something about a pluggin for personal smilies? So . . . perhaps you can keep an amount of your own? Not really sure what it means.

Not a clue either! But now I don't have costumes to make, I'll do some research! BTW, you can put in the alternative smilies by putting the word next to the smilie above between two star, so *xxxx*

I don't think I did it right. BTW, that was just the first word that came to mind.

When I look at the failing smilies, I see external links to smiley sites, so it looks like the external sites have removed the smilies, effectively leaving us with broken links. I'll look into it when I get chance. Remind me if I don't get round to it.
