Hi! I am a proud mom of 4, and a mourner of 4. I lost all 4 in freak accidents. All lived a greatly spoiled life. 3 died of smoke inhalation in a massive house fire back in '08. I just lost one in a post operative accident. Vet & Emergency vet are still trying to figure out how. the one I just lost (Scooter) was a rescue & we eventually built a huge bond. If I was home he always wanted out and he usually got his way he would come when I called him, loved jumping exercises, knew how to open jars and a lot more. Needless to say he was my little man. He is survived by his lady(rescued with Scooter), Babsy, and three kids. With more on the way! I got my hands full still for sure. I hope this is a good forum to chat about our furred ones and make friends! Mango

I am really sorry for the loss. It must have been so painful for you. I cannot imagine loosing my goos like this. Its not something I want to think about.
But I am glad you still keep degus after this traumatic incident. Would be fun to see photos of Babsy and her three kids : )
This is a great place to chat about degus...glad you decided to join.

Welcome to the forum!
I'm so sorry for your loss of Scooter. It sounds like he was extremely intelligent and loving. It is so hard to lose them, especially when the bond has been so close. I'm sure you worked hard to build it. Do you have pictures of him opening jars and such? I would love to see him.
I hope you enjoy it here on the forum. I'm sure you will find like minded members on here!

Thanks for the warm welcome. It has been a hard year and a half. I will be honest and say I was terrified to take more in post fire as I was reeling from the loss still. But they were on the brink of death and after playing nurse for a night I knew I couldn't keep scooter and babsy where they were. Thru time we all helped each other heal. Best decision ever. I have TONS of pics and video of scooter & the lot I don't have any of him opening jars but I did find the lid. It still has teeth marks in it from him. He only watched me open it a few times before he figured it out. He was a smart cookie. As I've been devastated by his loss his kids have been soaking up additional attention and demanding more. Once I get on a comp I will show them off for sure. I only have internet via my phone.
