Hello, Welcome to the forum
I love degus so i can see why you would want to get some more.
Im not very experienced when it comes to Chinchillas ( I will be soon as got to look after some for my friend when she goes on holiday) however im sure theres plenty of ppl on this forum who will be able to answer your questions. Also maybe have a look at the chinchilla section near the bottom of the home page may find some general information that may come in usefull, if not im sure the members on here will be happy to help you :-)

Chinchillas have a different diet to degus as well as need a lot more out of the cage time from what I have read. Chinchillas can have different woods also to degus - if you ever get a wooden toy make sure it isn't toxic to whoever you're getting it for. An example is I think chins can have Willow and Pear wood in their cages but degus can not.
I have never owned a chin and so my knowledge is limited to only snippets I have read. There are 1 or 2 owners here who have chinchillas so they should be able to help more.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you are enjoying your degus. Nice to have some more, isn't it? I have no Chin experience, but I think they are beautiful! I hope you can find any and all information you will need to learn about them. You might want to post your question on the Chin forum as well.

Hello ! Welcome to the forum : )
I only have a limited amount of experience with Chinchillas, as I adopted one and was able to find him a good, loving caretaker who owns other chins. He had been quite badly mistreated and neglected, so he was not the ideal pet. I heard about him, and although I wasnt planning on keeping a chinchilla, I made the decision and went to get him. It was an overnight thing, the people I took him from were going to bring him to a shelter. So my decision had to be quick but I am glad I decided to take him in. The feeling of knowing that you are helping something is need is very rewarding. What is ridiculous about these people is that they wanted me to pay for him and his cage...which as ridiculous as it is, I paid them to bring him home. After many months of contacting people I found a middle aged woman in Montreal, who isnt working outside home due to an accident that happened some time ago. She spends her time caring for her chinchillas and has adopted and tamed many of them in the past. I gave her the chin, cage, toys and wheel and last I heard, the chin is doing well. He got to know her other chinchillas and is healing from his past.
My experience was mostly dealing with a creature that had been neglected, physically harmed and had never been handled by the age of 4. I am not a good judge as to whether or not they make good pets, but I can tell you they are quite different from degus.
I actually do not see so many similarities between the two. Chinchillas are much calmer and less active than degus. They can also be troublesome to keep in a bedroom, especially if you are a light sleeper. In short, yes degus and chinchillas are related, but after keeping both I can see they are totally different animals with different needs and requirements.
Hope this helps...
