Leave a tube for him to walk into and then pick it up. That's what I do. Degus seem to love walking into tubes. ;D
Try not to chase them about to get them back in. It tends to result in them seeing you as a predator and stresses them out. If you have a deep sandbath wait till he uses it then carry him over to the cage in his bath.
As for the over giving of the snacks, they'll be fine if you stop now. A few treats each a week is what I usually go for. Just try and be careful as they're very prone to diabetes, which is usually fatal to them.

Hello and welcome to the forum! It is lovely to meet you and your two boys. This is a great place to be when you have questions or need help . . . or to just hang out. ;D

Your absolutely right to say dont chase them around but you'll find once they get used to you this can become a game to them, my advice is dont let it get that far or you spend HOURS chasing them. Sam seems to think its funny to play hide and seek.
Like advised above find something they like (dustbath, specific treat - this is different for all of them) and use it to train them to come to you. My oldest pair have learned the word IN when i say it but generally ignore my wife. The youngest couldnt care less at this stage.
