Well I can only talk from my personal experience which is limited, i've only had my boys for a couple of weeks. They don't seem at all bothered by my 2 cats, but then again my cats haven't paid them any attention. They are elderly and used to having rats (pets, not wild ones ) in the house. In fact if truth be told the degus seem more afraid of me than the cats But all animals are different and a lot will depend on the cats attitude to them and how much attention she gives them. Personally I would only let the cat in the same room when supervied until you are totally satisfied that they are relaxed with eachother.

Degus are full of character and curiousity, which often drives them to check out things they would be better of leaving alone. They are truly quite fearless. We have two dogs, and although they will sometimes run to the back of their cage when the big dog is staring intently at them, there is one that will consistently park himself right in front of her and just sit there. Sometimes he completely ignores her, as if to say, "MEH!! You think you're so SCARY!" Other times he rushes up to the bars and screams at her, telling her off for scaring his cage mates and disrupting the general peace. It's really too funny. We have the rare account of a cat killing a degu, but I have only heard of this once, maybe twice, since joining the forum. For the most part, cats tend to stay away, especially after an unexpected bit of "GROOMING" from the teeth on the other side of the bars. ;D

I was concerned about my goo's with my 4 cats, but my old cat Dinky, doesn't even bother, Mitsy sleeps on the top of their cage, and neither her or the goo's seem interested in each other, but my 2 younger girls, rosie and daisie are quite fascinated with the boys! But put it this way, neither will be putting their paws by the boys cage anytime soon lol

Mine are ok with the dogs. Never left unsupervised tho. Maddy will regularly bite off more than she can chew and I'd be terrified that she'd bite one of the dogs - who could even snap back at them and then its bye bye degu The dogs soon grew bored of watching them, but then they were used to gerbils running amock about people and regularly sit and have the rabbit groom them! Oh, n the rabbit also snorts at them to get the digestive biscuits first so they kno to back up and wait their turn (they're used to being bottom of the pack... maybe just above the teenager...)

We have good 'huunting' cats! They often check out the degus, who in turn check them out! As the cats can't get their paws in the cage, I worry more for them than the degus; who chew the cats paws!!!!! They will all settle & learn to get along.
