Hi Everyone,
I got my two degu's a week and a half ago, making them almost 10 weeks old. Despite doing lots of research my boys still manage to do some odd things, so I'm hoping that I'll find out some more info here.

You're not alone here, I'm also a new owner and I got my babies last friday. I've posted pics and a video or two in the pics section. This forum is useful if you have questions to ask or want to talk about ideas you've had for making their (and your) lives better :-)

Also extending greetings and welcome to the forum! ;D Ask any and all questions. We have all learned that degus are wonderful, loving, seriously curious characters . . . and to some degree . . . STRANGE. LOL! So, no question is too weird or silly.

hi! im new too, had my girls for 10 days but feels like longer! I did loads of research too but it seems like they do their own thing and dont conform to the 'norm' which is fine by me as i love their own little quirks and personalities. enjoy the site, i have found lots of useful info x

Hello ! Sounds like fun. Your boys need to slowly get used to you. Read through the forum. You will find many helpful tips in here. You might also want to check out this video on taming degus. Follow the tips and your boys will enventually warm up to you. With time, practise and patience, your degus will become your best friends

hi everyone i got two degus last Friday then the next day i thought they looked a bit lonely so i went back for there bros i have 4 boys now they look much happier but they are still a bit scared of me every time i leave the room they come out and play but when i come in they hide anyone got any tips Buy yourself some puffed wheat or puffed corn (ask for it in health food shops, although personally I have Degu Jr food for them and it contains quite a few pieces of them...also, explain to them you want it without any additives as it's for a pet) and whenever you come into the room go over to the cage and offer each of them a piece, and talk to them softly as you do it...I say "What's this? Eh?" personally...over time they'll identify your entrance into the room with a treat (positive reinforcement) and you'll soon see them coming to the side of the cage whenever they see you :-) Also, I also have 4 boys, I didn't want to split the family up too much so I went out of my way to find a breeder with 4...good luck when it comes to dominance, that's all I can say, it's harder with 4. You might also notice that one of them is smaller than the rest (as with mine) although it isn't always so...if so, I guarantee he won't be the lowest in the hierarchy, he won't allow it to happen :-)

I cannot believe how much my 3 boys have taken over my life....I have had them 1 week and 1 day and have to say how glad I am to have had this fortnight off work, they are really part of the family. I hope that in time they will come out for fuss as at the mo its the cage door only and on my hand for a few seconds. My husband has built a play pen which they have a run around daily although I cannot relax when they are in there and am constantly on high alert waiting for them to escape. I did a lot of research before getting my goos and am glad I did but I am still surprised at how much attention i want to give them and how much they need. My hubbie says he is a Degu Widow

LOL! I think I heard words like that when our boys first came home, too! But now, my husband is interested in having a visit with them too. He even comes to the cage to say hello! We ALL love them!
