Hi, My name is Jane, I'm 41, Married to Colin and I have three boys - Tom is 17, Harry is 13 and Ben is 4.
We have 6 cats, 3 elderly guinea pigs (approaching 7yo) a tank of fish, Harry has 2 giant african land snails (but they're not giants yet as they're only babies) and I have this week got 4 degus.
They are roughly 19 weeks old and as sweet as can be. I first saw degus in a pet shop close to 10 years ago and was captivated. I couldn't find much information about them at the time and as I like to research new pets before I get them I stuck with rats for the next few years. When I was pregnant with Ben I developed an allergy to the rats which never went away so I couldn't have any more - fortunately the older boys were able to give them plenty of attention after I couldn't handle them any more. A few months ago I started researching degus again as I was feeling a need for small furries in my life again. After much reading (and finding this place) I felt I would be a good fit with Degus and started planning for them. Earlier this week I was in P@H (I know, not perfect but ...) and they had 4 little girls who were so sweet and friendly. I braved putting a finger in the cage and they fought over who got to groom me ;D
I went home and ordered a big cage (this one cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260736144068 ), lots of toys and other things to spoil them and once I had the cage set up I went back to P@H and got them all - they were surprised I wanted more than 2.
They are very tame already which is great - I often sit with my hand in the cage and they leap in my hand and start grooming me.
I'm getting to know them all individually and am able to tell them apart most of the time, LOL. We have (named by the boys) Billie, Poppy, Nancy and Agatha.
Now I've given you my life history, LOL. I'll look forward to getting to know you all.
