I've been feeding my girls Beaphar Degu food plus dried herbs and the occasional Science Selective Degu biscuit. Now (shock horror)! I am running out of food and I am temporarily unable to purchase either. I will try to restock via the internet but we, the bunnies and degus are going caravanning for the weekend and that isn't an option right now. I've purchased some Beaphar Chinchilla food which I was going to mix with the remaining Beaphar Degu food just so the girls don't have to go on a diet. Can't see any fruit in it and if there is I will pick it out. Will this diet be OK for a few days?

I've been trying to discover the ingredients list for this product, but can't seem to find it online. Is it listed on the package? Knowing the ingredients would help to determine if it is OK for your degus.

I´ver searched in german stores an i found this: Alfalfa, peas, high-quality soy, wheat extrudate, raisins, corn, carrot flakes, oats, alfalfa extrudate. I hope for the future you are interested in feeding more natural food. Have you seen the following thread: deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=food&action=display&thread=8775sorry I say this , but all your finished feed I would not choose as a base for a feed mixture. Excuse my honesty

This isn't the best choice for degus, alright, and I'm glad you've thought to ask. The raisins are not good at all and need to be removed. I personally dislike seeing soy in so many of the animal food products, regardless of the species they are intended for. If you can remove the raisins, great, but if they are not visible and the food is just all one mixed up pellet . . . EH! Not good at all.
I guess the long and short of it is, if you can remove parts, like the raisins, then you are probably OK for a few short days. I wouldn't go beyond that though. I know it is a case of filling in the gap while you are out of food.

I've managed to remove the raisins (gosh there were a lot of them - when I kept a chinchilla I would have been alarmed if she'd been fed so many raisins)! Still out trawling for degu food. I'm happy to go the natural feeds route. I already feed a lot of dried herbs and grasses, and grass and wild strawberry leaves from my garden which the goos love! The girls are a little picky with their old commercial mix so I'd rather try to feed them something which is healthy, which they enjoy and where they eat every bit! Maybe this can be a turning point in their diet! Thanks for all your help! Incidentally, I am not totally out of Degu food so am mixing chin and degu food together so as not to give the girls too much of a radical change. Rather do this than run out completely. If only my regular supplier had not decided to shut up shop! Dang cheek!

Hubby managed to locate some Degu food today so all is well. Thanks for your help. Will definitely investigate mixing up my own Degu food!
