I'm sorry if this has been discussed before but I did a search and nothing came up. Does anyone know if degus can eat Ginger root? I was cooking with some and after my degus were very interested in the Ginger smell on my hand.

I've never came across anyone asking this before, hmmm, not sure to be honest. Is Giner not a little spicy, hard to describe, you know it has like a little kick in it if you know what I mean. Not sure about the sugar content in ginger? hmmm anyone got any suggestions?

I did a search on deguforum.de and found several posts that said they probably won't eat it because it is to spicy/sharp, but nobody seems to have tried it. I have found no suggestion that it could do them any harm. You could offer them a very small piece and see what happens. If they eat it, one could do a few more searches.

I also asked the question on a French degu forum and they seem to think it would be bestto avoid as it is considered an exotic plant and therefore likely to e unsuitable. Anyway I presented them with a tiny piece, one had a sniff and walked away and the other one grabbed and started eating it. Anyway, I won't offer it again just in case.
