Smux, since when does a vegetable have protein!!! Carrot has higher sugar levels than other veg, so it just needs to be limited. Also one of the uses of carob may be as a chocolate subsitute but it doesn't have the properties of chocolate. The biggest danger of chocolate is theobromine, which is an alkaloid found in chocolate and is poisonous to animals. Studies haven't been done on all animals but it has been shown to be poisonous to rats (as well as dogs and cats, which is what most people know). So, seeing as both rats and degus are rodents (Order Rodentia) I wouldn't want to risk it. smux, you're a great guy and I know you'll do anything for your goos, well for any goos and i've witnessed this in other threads, but just be sure to get your facts right first before advising someone else. As for peanut butter, the more I think about it the more I think it's ok for degus, in very low quantities obviously. But you'll have to be careful when you buy the peanut butter that there aren't other things added to it. Technicallly should just be peanuts and oil. Oh well, pity I don't like peanut butter, otherwise cinammon might get to try a bit. Oh, gave mine pasta for the first time, it was so funny they didn't know what to do with it at first. They soon wolfed it down though

Tastes nicer to them Well, it's more expensive than normal hay, and the cheaper hay tends to be used for bedding more often than not. Also Timothy Hay has, I believe, more nutrients for them.

Cool, well i'll use up what we have now first then try find it. Think them getting used to each other is enough change to start with! Which reminds me, need to start reading back on how to introduce goo's to each other. Seems to be going well to start with!
