So, I have been trying to get Biscuit & Fudge to eat some fresh veg but so far they are not so keen.
What is the most popular veggie in your degu family?
I'm wondering if there is a common favourite that I can try, although knowing my two they wouldn't like it.

Our boys love organic tomato paste, stuff without salt or sugar in it. They love rose petals and leaves, raspberry leaves, mint, basil, dill. I know they aren't veg, but they are green and good.

Hi Dingle, Mine are not that keen on fresh veg either. Mine will eat spring cabbage, but generally the day after I put it in the cage. They will also eat fresh dandelion and fresh mint. Other than that it's a constant battle of wills They love anythigndried though! Louise

They will hoover up seeds and non-healthy snacks, but try and give them something healthy and they run away and hide!

Mine have eaten runner beans, french beans, sweet potato, carrot, chives, thyme, spring onion, broccoli. Sometimes they eat it, sometimes they dont. I only tend to give them some if I am having it and can give them a bit of that, they don't seem to fussed really. The degu foods you can get are 'complete' so if they don't eat and veg it's not a problem.
It really is just trial and error...

So far all I've tried with mine has been broccoli, but they seem to like it pretty well.

My little goos don't like veg either! I read that celery and spinach was a favorite but they won't touch it. They too only sometimes eat carrot. They absolutely love and even fight over onion and garlic skin though! Not sure if that really counts as fresh vegetables!

Small amounts each day, if they like them . . . cut up, about 125gms or less. You just have to keep and eye on their stools to make sure they aren' getting soft to runny. They can get diahrea or bloat from too much veg and that is NOT good for them. Better to err on the low side really. My goos really don't seem to like any type we can buy in the grocery.

I haven't tried the little ones on vegetables yet, but when I put it in the bigger boys' cage they just tend to look at me like...."Yeah, funny.... now give us one of those sunflower seeds!" lol.

have tried my lot with readigrass, this morning, and they have gone mad for it. would anyone know if its ok to give them quite a bit of it?
this is what is say on the website
ReadiGrass is 100% natural ryegrass grown in British pastures. The low-temperature drying process removes the water – but leaves the fragrant aroma, vibrant colour and high nutrient value of fresh grass. Full of natural flavour, sealed in by the drying process to ensure palatability, tempting even the fussiest eaters and reducing wastage. The fibrous nature of the grass helps to reduce the risk of overgrown teeth.
